Comments about Black Diamond Ion LED Headlamp:
The first battery lasted about 10 hours which is to be expected according to the information on the packaging. I would have been OK with that if the battery were not one of those tiny 6v types that costs $5.00. Worse, there is no suitable re-chargeable substitute for this battery. I had to return this headlamp because of the poor battery life.
On the plus side, the beam is nice and bright and the unit weighs next to nothing.

Comments about Black Diamond Ion LED Headlamp:
love this thing! It is so small I keep it either in the attic of my climbing helmet, or the pocket on my chalkbag. If I am pushing my luck with daylight on a climb I may decide not to bring my big 3 watt headlamp because I know this one is always with me. I wouldn't use it as a primary light when an allnight descent is planned...at least intentionally. But that happened. My partner forgot hers, so she used this, and it lasted all night as we rapped down from royal arches in yosemite. 20 raps, in the dark. I carry a spare battery as well. It won't turn on accidentally as it folds over and covers the switch. I'm buying another one for my wife.

Comments about Black Diamond Ion LED Headlamp:
I use this for backpacking. I bought it as an emergency backup for my primary headlamp. It is lighter, smaller and more effective than the little single AA LED flashlight it replaced.
I have used it a few times when it was more convenient than digging out my primary headlamp and was impressed. It is bright and very usable. Ten hours should be more than enough to get by if my primary ever fails.
At some point I will put a lithium battery in it.
