Comments about Black Diamond Contour Elliptical Trekking Poles - Pair:
I can't believe I waited so long to retire my Leki twist-lock poles. The foam handles on the Contour Elliptic are extremely comfortable and the 15-degree forward tilt really helps wrist wear and tear. The wrist straps are extremely well designed and comfortable--the difference they make is huge. Finally, the flick locks are so reliable, they make collapsing and expanding the poles a snap. No more fiddling to get the internal twist-lock mechanism to catch--with flick locks, it's an open and shut case. These are clearly superior and some of the best poles on the market.

Comments about Black Diamond Contour Elliptical Trekking Poles - Pair:
I hike in the Chugach Mountains in Alaska year round. I use these poles on all hike and when hunting I find these poles superior to any other that I have tried. Excellent locking mechanism and very comfortable grips. They have taken a lot of abuse and have never failed me. Minor con (as with any collapsible pole), the sliding part of the poles can freeze solid in 0F temperatures and will not expand or collapse until thawed.

Comments about Black Diamond Contour Elliptical Trekking Poles - Pair:
This is my fifth pair of trekking poles. I had previously owned Komperdell and Leki poles. But after using these, I am a Black Diamond loyalist. No matter how much abuse I put these poles through, the flip-locks do not slip, unlike the fasteners on other poles. The flip-locks are easy to adjust, strong, and dependable. The elliptical shape adds strength. The shock-absorbers are comfortable. The grips and wrist-straps are comfortable. Excellent poles.

Comments about Black Diamond Contour Elliptical Trekking Poles - Pair:
Grips are comfortable, and didn't chafe or irritate. Flik-locks are the best locks in the business. The trekking poles were stiff, and quiet.

Comments about Black Diamond Contour Elliptical Trekking Poles - Pair:
I have used these poles extensively, the longest time for a 12 day hike in the Swiss Alps. The grip is so soft and comfortable. I had no issues with hand blisters. The hand loops are comfortable with a wide strap to prevent chaffing.
The flip lock meant that I could quickly and easily collapse them down to attach to my pack. They also collapsed small enough to fit inside my pack, very important for air travel. I like too that they have a removable snow/mud basket. I'm a fan

Comments about Black Diamond Contour Elliptical Trekking Poles - Pair:
These poles were rock-solid when I bought them last year. Smooth adjustment, no bending, and they never collapsed mid-hike like some other poles I tried. I took them apart to clean and dry them frequently per BD's recommendation. These things aren't cheap, so I try to treat them well.
At some point, the black caps on top of the middle pole sections came off, and after that the poles didn't slide as smoothly when adjusting their lengths. Then the insides of the tubes started oxidizing. I cleaned them out, but the white junk keeps coming back. The flick locks became loose as a result of having to pull hard to overcome the friction from oxidation when adjusting the poles. (They're still solid when clamped, though.) The padding on the wrist strap has started to come off in one part.
The poles still work when I'm hiking. I'm not worried about them falling apart. However, they're a pain to adjust and maintain, and the wrist strap isn't quite as comfortable. BD's warranty is only good for a year, so if you do buy these poles, REI might be the best place to do it. The return policy will cover you in case anything comes up.

Comments about Black Diamond Contour Elliptical Trekking Poles - Pair:
Just back from an 80 mile A.T. hike through the SNP and couldn't be happier with these poles. Grips were no issue even with wet palms. And the length adjustment was so easy as I must have done it hundreds of times on the fly. Purchased the tips with the poles which made it quiet and more stable on the rocks. They performed as expected.

Comments about Black Diamond Contour Elliptical Trekking Poles - Pair:
I always use trekking poles when backpacking because they save a lot of strain on my knees (especially downhill); they prevent falls (especially when crossing streams); and I use them as poles for my tarptent or tarp.
The FlickLock mechanism is far superior to twist-lock. I have 100% confidence in them whereas the twist-lock would occasionally slip or get stuck.
My only complaint so far with the Countour Ellipticals is that the wrist straps tend to gradually loosen and I have to re-adjust them after awhile. This minor gripe is why I gave them a 4-star rating instead of 5.

Comments about Black Diamond Contour Elliptical Trekking Poles - Pair:
I used them to finish up 100 miles of the Superior Hiking trail. Pulled them out after the winter and really had to work to get them extended. Found out that the shaft and a lot of oxidation that I'm going to have to clean. The straps are also coming apart, something I'd read others had problems with. I do think the locking mechanism works really good.
