Comments about Zamberlan Civetta GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
I'm probably going to sound like another Zamberlan fanatic here, but if I do I've earned the title.I'm on my 2nd pair of Zamberlans. I've had the first pair for about a decade. I've hiked extensively in the SoCal mountains and desert and in the Oregon wet with the first pair and they still perform great. They're still waterproof and comfortable and have shown no catastrophic failures. The soles are still intact and the uppers are still in good shape. I'm sure the fact that I conscientiously care for my footwear has helped preserve them but the high quality of these boots is just undeniable. The new pair of Civettas I have are easily the best fitting footwear of ANY footwear I've ever owned. This will sound like horse[*] but these boots almost feel as comfortable as slippers. Plus they breathe very well and are just great in the desert heat. If you’ve hiked in very hot climates you know how important that feature is.I bought my girlfriend a pair of Civettas to take to Togo during her tour of duty in the Peace Corp. Walking almost everywhere, she wore these boots everyday for a year in the mud, torrential rain and high humidity. She raved about them right up to the day they were stolen from her...(well actually she still raves about them because I bought her another pair to replace them when she got back). These boots might seem pricey. But consider that 1) footwear is arguably the most important hiking gear you'll ever buy; and 2) if you can get twice the performance and twice the "wear" out of your boots, they're actually just half the price. If you can find a better fitting, better performing or long lasting hiking boot than the Zamberlan Civetta, I would love to know about them. Show me a better product and I'll switch tomorrow.

Comments about Zamberlan Civetta GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
I bought these boots almost 8 years ago and have had very few problem with them. The toe cap on one boot started to seperate last year, but did not affect the feel or the waterproofness. I can still walk through shallow streams, stand in 4" puddles forever and they won't leak. I've also never gotten that "raw hamburger" or bruised feel from these I have gotten from other boots after a long day of hiking; granted, I did replace the insoles with green Super Feet to increase the torsional stiffness and higher arch I require.
I've taken these to Colorado during the winter and used them as after ski boots at -30deg. F. and had nice warm toes the whole time.
One drawback: Zamberlan recommends that only a particular kind of spray on waterproofer be used as all others will clog the pores in the leather making your feet sweat more.
Another: the uppers squeaked for several months before they finally quit.
I've backpacked in these carrying 50lbs loads in 90 deg. F. temps and my feet don't sweat much, as long as I wear thin nylon socks under my backpacking socks. I've NEVER gotten blisters in these boots despite having narrow feet and fused bones in my rt. ankle. I even wear these to work when my ankle is hurting; they help stablize it reducing the amount of pain and tiredness I feel after a whole day on my feet.
I'm buying another pair when they go on sale

Comments about Zamberlan Civetta GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
These boots are the best if you are looking for something durable that will last a long time, stand up to a beating, and perform in all conditions. I never take these boots for a day hike, but whenever I go off-trail or in the snow, these boots out-perform anything else. The shank allows you to cut up super-steep slopes and not have worn-out feet at the end of the day.
I have strapped on crampons to go up Rainier, Hood, and several other mts. in Utah. Very water-proof, you can stand in water and not get your feet wet.
They are heavy and not very comfortable, but I wouldn't trade the durability and strength of these shoes for a 'cushy, comfortable' shoe - because what I'm doing is not 'cushy and comfortable'. At the end of the day my feet still feel fine and not sore.

Comments about Zamberlan Civetta GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
These boots are built really solid and were very comfortable right out of the box. They feel like they were custom made for my feet. They're a little loose around the ankle, but will only fit better with time.

Comments about Zamberlan Civetta GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
I just ordered my third pair today! I think the fact that I am a repeat buyer says a lot for this boot.
They fit great and they are so comfortable that I wear them everywhere, even when I'm not out on the trail and rough terrain.
And they last. I get about 2 to 3 years of relieable rugged terrain use with these boots and I hike and climb a lot (year round) and I wear them everywhere else too... that's a lot of miles!
The first pair I got was so comfortable that I actually found a cobbler who was able to resole them!
I use them rain or shine, in extreme heat and in cold. I've worn them on extremely steep terrain, rooty brushy overgrown bushwhacks, in streambeds and scrambling over boulders, taken them through mud, pumice, shale, dust, sand, jagged & smooth rocks, water, ice and snow. I wouldn't put anything else on my feet.*
*Before discovering these Zamberlans, I used to hike in Vasque Sundowners (similar to the Vasque Summits) and they are a great boot as well: generally a little narrower, lighter and also comfortable.
But... after discovering these Zamberlans, I'd never go back.

Comments about Zamberlan Civetta GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
These easily are the most comfortable, well-made and fitted boots I've ever owned, aside from some old school type Lowa Civettas I had in 1976, but those never really broke in, they were soooo thick and stiff. These Zamberlan Civettas are so darned nice I went and bought a second pair so I could rotate if needed. I don't want to be without my Zamberlans. Top notch, best made, comfortable but supportive as long as you don't plan on carrying 80 lbs for a week. Good luck!

Comments about Zamberlan Civetta GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
Like many other reviews, I've had my first pair for 10 over years. Finally broke the left sole riding (maybe I was jumping... :)...) my dirt bike at the farm, but hell, I still wear them. My fiancé bought them for me and we have now been married 10 years, good girl. I'm finally replacing them now, with the 20% off coupon - they don't get any cheaper. I used saddle soap and the Zamberlan waterproof cream to re-water proof them exclusively, and they would look like new each time. Of course they never lost any of the breathability or water proofness when using their cream. I'd recommend you get a tube when you buy them. One tube will last over 10 years. I really cannot praise these boots enough. I have worn these boots in all climates and circumstances and they are just my favorites. Heck, I've even worn them to Church. The soles will wear and lose some traction over time particually in hard pack snow and ice over time. I recall busting my butt on some ice a couple of seasons ago, but then again it was ICE. These are the best boot on the market bar none.

Comments about Zamberlan Civetta GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
I have used these boots for everything from day hikes to two week hikes in the Olympics, Cascades, Olympic Coast, to muddy landscaping jobs and winter construction sites. I have owned these boots for 10 years and they still have plenty of traction and support, and still offer some water resistance. The leather has separated from the sole a bit in some places, they're not as waterproof as they once were, but they're still going strong. This brand was recommended to me 10 years ago, and I will continue to recommend it.
I have somewhat wide feet, and these boots fit great from the start, and have never given me a blister, even on 20 mile days with 40 pounds in the alpine.

Comments about Zamberlan Civetta GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
I had so many people swear by this boot - [...] - I just had to try it. I mentioned what I would be using it for and they still highly recommended it. I'd like to mention right off that this boot is designed for someone with a slightly wider, slightly higher volume foot (like me). It is roomy in the toebox and wider in the forefoot than many other boots. This is a very nice boot. It is well-made and comfortable. It lacks any sort of cushion though and there is too much slack in the ankle to provide total support. Zamberlan lists this as a "Field Boot" and that is definitely a more appropriate use than hiking. The tread is very non-agressive and isn't very useful in helping you get your footing during steep trail climbs on rocky paths. This would serve as a good everyday boot if you put a nice replacement set of insoles in them. As a hiking boot though, it's just too incomplete to satisfy my needs on the trails and in the backcountry.

Too hot for summer use, but will be great for cool to cold weather hiking. Very well put together boot. You get what you pay for.
