      I bought this cap for hiking and backpacking and overall I think that this is *not* a good purpose for this hat. The reason is the lack of breathability due to the waterproof laminate and the taped seams which actually get dripping wet. Maybe an eVent laminate would be better, but ultimately it's hard to transfer as much moisture as your head can give off while you're backpacking up a hill.

      I found that that main use for this hat is as an additional "beak" for my rain jacket's hood when it's raining. So I wasn't *really* using the waterproof nature of the hat anyway, as the DWR wears off quite quickly and the front of the cap wets out very quickly.

      So I think I'm going to move to a more "summery" thin and breathable cap which will be more comfortable overall and I'll deal with it getting a little wet in the front when it rains.

      If you're just going to use this for around town use, then it would seem quite appropriate, but I'm just not sure they'll sell too many for this purpose. I believe most would be buying it for hiking or backpacking.

      REI, make this in eVent and I'll try it out again.

      This hat does a great job of keeping the rain off of my glasses. I usually don't wear my contacts (out of laziness) so when it's raining, I love this hat. I wouldn't buy this hat for it's looks or to keep the sun out of my eyes...much better hats out there for that...this is a waterproof hat. It's very plain looking. usually it's tucked under a hood or something anyways.

        I have used this hat on vacation from North Carolina to the Galapagos Islands. I have been in lots of sun and lots of rain. This hat works well for both and dries quickly. When it rains, your head never feels it. The only think I would improve are the color choices.
