Comments about REI Zip Travel Tote:
So you've packed your luggage and realized your main bags aren't going to work well for those trips to the gym, poolside, or for a quick side trip once you reach your main destination?
Consider throwing this ultra light (8.5 oz) ultra capacity (2,150 cubic inches) self-packing tote in your luggage as your "destination" gym or shopping bag - or even over-night bag if you want to leave the "big bags" at your main hotel or friend's place while you take a side trip. If you are car-tripping, this makes a better tote than a recyled shopping bag.
This tote is made of thin but strong materials so it won't hog space when packed in another bag, and won't feel like a brick to carry.
It has useful "extras" like a zip closure for the large main compartment (most totes don't have this feature) and four mesh slash pockets on the outside. Plus you can get it in basic black.
Provided you don't stuff it full, you can probably "fake out" the flight attendants at the gate by treating it as a shopping bag or personal bag - it doesn't look like it has almost as much capacity as a "maximum legal carryon" size bag.
I use mine for a variety of purposes:
* Once I arrive at my destination, to carry a bulky judo uniform and associated gear to a match. My actual travel duffel would be overkill for that purpose.
* For destination travel shopping - I use a small daypack for my personal items, and this tote is stuffed in there. If I or my wife goes crazy shopping, this bag is easier on our hands for carrying our purchases back to the hotel than the narrow plastic bag handles common to most store-provided shopping bags.
*This is a "super size me" diaper/kiddie bag if you are going on a day trip with the kids.
Kudos to REI for a well thought-out, useful tote.
Note: I wish the handles were a little thicker, not because they aren't durable, but because they lack the intrinsic "stiffness" necessary to prevent them from "collapsing down" and biting the palm. Sometimes I use a velcro handle wrapper (REI sells one) to provide a fatter grip, otherwise I fiddle with the straps so they don't bunch up. I am also thinking about purchasing some short strips of webbing material from REI's climbing department and having the local drycleaner sew them on, to add more "body" to the handles just where I grip them.

Comments about REI Zip Travel Tote:
This bag is the perfect size to lug all my stuff to the gym in the mornings - clothes for work, toiletries, towel, shoes. It is lightweight and has numberous pockets to stash things. Plus it folds up tiny so I'll be packing it on my next vacation in case I go shopping.
Service and delivery comments:
Super fast! Free shipping to the store - picked it up within a few days of ordering.
