We bought 6 of these for a trip to Bowron Lakes in Canada. All 6 failed within the first few days of the trip forcing us to portage the old fasioned way for the remaining days. They are rated for 200 lbs and we were each weighted in at the start with under 140 lbs. The Aluminum boat keels cut the straps holding them together until we lashed sticks to elevate them off the center.
Some of the trails were smooth and others had roots or rocks. The aluminum struts all weakened and 4 eventually snapped off. The two remaining ones showed white fatigue and would have broken given more time. They couldn't even handle the empty 86 lb canoes without bouncing around and requiring adjustment to track straight. really need two straps to secure. I would only recommend these if you plan on using them for absolutely flat portages and no additional weight in the canoes.

Fits nicely into the rear hold of my 17' kayak with the wheels off. But the single kickstand will collapse under the weight of the boat depending on how you place it. Needs more support.

Bought two. Both broke on our first portage into the BWCAW. With extensive modifications, use on the beach rather shakily for a few yards. Would not use in the wilderness, in fact strongly recommend not buying this product for any use.

This kayak cart is very frustrating - REI should not carry it. First off, the cart folds up often while you're trying to load it. Worst off, there is no easy way to secure the kayak to the cart with the included straps. The straps come off and the kayak slips off and falls to the ground as you attempt to pull it to your destination. You'll be swearing like a truck driver after a few attempts at using it. Don't waste your time and money.

This product does not work. It does not hold your kayak without imeediately collapsing. It is poor quality at best since it cannot hold the weight of a standard single kayak and the parts are cheap. REI should not sell this

Absolute garbage - do not buy this!This is cheap junk poorly designed. In lessthan 1 year a tire tube has failed ($17 to replaceit), and the straps are wearing out where my canoe'skeel rests on them (the foam pads are way toothin). The frame has bent so the wheels stickout at odd angles. That's how cheaply made thesethings are.As for function, they are barely useable forshort trips across the basement or any perfectlysmooth surface, assuming you can get a boat ontoone.Since there is only 1 strap, any surfaceirregularity or bump will twist the cartand you end up rolling sideways.That's the good news. Loading the boat is almostimpossible. The stand collapses almost everytime and frequently the rest of the cart collapsesdown as well. And that's on a perfectly smoothand level surface after a LOT of practice.Make sure to unload the boat completelybefore attempting to use this thing becauseit can barely handle the weight of an empty boat,never mind any gear.The other reviews are correct - do not buy this. I spoke to REI and confirmed that all thenegative reviews are correct, but REI is stillselling this product. I won't mistakenly buyanything from Seattle Sports again, and I willnow think carefully before buying again from REI.

I bought this for my kayak. Not once could I get the thing to work right. The straps would slide off, and the kayak would always slide off the kayak rest and fall to sit on the wheels. I had so much trouble with it that I just gave it to a co-worker, maybe he will have a better time figuring out how to use it. I wanted it for everyday use, but couldn't use it.

As many have mentioned, the cart often collapses. This can easily be fixed by making the strap that goes down the middle of the cart rigid, with a couple of 3/8 inch copper pipe clips and a piece of wood. Unfortunatley this causes a need for a screwdriver to break down the cart completely, some wing nuts could help that. the cart is a little narrow for wide boats but sure takes a load off one person. Ray Jardine has inspired me to tinker and adapt stuff, hope this inspires some others to do the same.

OK,here's the deal on carts--you've got to get the right cart for your boat. I got this Mighty Mite for my Necky Looksha 4 and had all the problems everyone else has with it. I thought either I was crazy or this thing was worthless. Finally I asked the right salesperson, who told me this cart is not designed for a boat with a narrow, deep hull like mine. It's more for a recreational boat with a shallow hull. Wish they'd have something printed to warn people about this!
So talk to someone before buying any cart.
And it's a good idea to try loading it in the store before buying if you can.
I'm rating this one average because I'm guessing it probably works fine for the right boat.

I bought this to save some money, not worth it...spend the extra cash and upgrade. I like that the wheels come off and it can be stored in my hull easily...but rust is an issue ( the bearings and the pins ) but it is unstable, difficult to get the Kayak to balance, kick stand is weak and it still feels like your pulling a ton when slugging through deep sand. I have modified mine, and still use it...but for a bit more cash I think I could have gotten a much better one.
