Comments about Benchmade 940 Osborne Serrated Knife:
I've had two of these over the last several years - lost one when it fell out of my pocket on a trip, but I was quick to buy the second. The two edge types are incredibly useful, and the type of steel used lends itself to holding a good edge. The contours of the handle and blade are also quite attractive - even though that's not something I generally consider when knife shopping.
One of my favorite things about this knife has to be the AXIS locking mechanism. This isn't one of those Gerber FAST knives with the spring-loaded opening mechanism (that still scares me) - it's better. You basically hold the lock open with your thumb and the blade can swing relatively freely (depending on how tight you keep the pivot). This allows you to open or close it quickly and easily with one hand, but without having to worry about it shooting open on its own. This feature, combined with its durability, has forced me to leave the rest of my knives in the drawer.
There is, of course, a downfall: cleaning. The star-hex heads on the screws mean you'll have to do some special ordering to make sure you'll be able to open it up when you need to. On top of that, you just have to keep your eye out for the washers and springs in the locking mechanism when you do so. It's not entirely complicated, but more so than your basic knife.
Despite that, I have yet to see or use a better overall knife, and I've used many (gerber, kershaw, cold steel). The price might be a little steep, but your money goes a long way in quality and function, as well as style. Buy this knife - you won't regret it!

Comments about Benchmade 940 Osborne Serrated Knife:
I didn't specify durable because mine hasn't seen hard use yet, but I have done my homework on the steel, brand, and action and I am sure it will hold up admirably. Benchmade has a great warranty department if it doesn't for some reason.
I have the carbon fiber edition that was available through REI while it lasted, and it has the added benefit of being very nice looking on top of its strength and minimal weight.
The AXIS locking mechanism deserves special praise. It is very easy to open after a couple days of handling the knife, and about as fast as a switchblade. The AXIS is as fast to close as to open, unlike folding switchblades. It is also a very strong locking mechanism from what I have read. I won't be testing mine to breaking, but others have and you can find the results online.
It's slim and light construction make it a breeze to carry clipped in your pocket, yet the handle still manages to fill my hand comfortably: my glove size is a perfect "Large".
