Comments about Delta Kayaks Twelve 10 Kayak:

This is a beautiful-looking and well-made boat. I bought one for myself and then I bought a different, smaller boat for my wife, but she didn't like it at all and said she wanted a 12.10, so we bought a second one!

It is extremely easy to paddle and is very stable, my wife was not afraid at all to use it. Both her mom and my mom, who have never paddled in their lives, liked the boats so much, they didn't want to get out of the water. Now, given the stability, the 12.10 is NOT slow. I've gotten up to 6-7 mph on a lake going into the wind (got a reading from a GPS), but usually I'm around 4.5-5mph during regular paddling.

The boat fits both my 5'8" wife and 6' myself pretty well. My only complaint is that my legs go numb after a while, but this is a common problem with boats - happens because the seat pushes too hard on the thighs and cuts off blood circulation. Doesn't affect my wife, juts me, so I wish the seat was more adjustable.

The bulkheads are huge and seal well, but the cris-crossing bungee system is a little annoying - you probably shouldn't try to get into the bulkheads on the water, but in case you do, forget about it.

Yes, there is a slight problem with tracking, but it's not a big deal. This is a 12-foot boat, so it's not going to be as fast or pointed as the ocean kayaks. However, for a 12-footer, it has an amazing balance of stability, maneuverability, and speed.

Very strong and light, as it is a thermoformed boat. Easy to get on and off a car roof - for me at least. The foot-bracing system is nice, and I like the paddle straps in the back. This boat really does have a lot of the features found only on higher-end ocean boats. The hull does scratch & mark - the marks can be taken away with a sponge, the scratches - polished out (haven't done this as I don't have any major ones yet).

Overall, a great boat, I am very happy with both of mine.

Comments about Delta Kayaks Twelve 10 Kayak:

The Delta 12.10 is the best-outfitted 13-ft kayak on the market. It has large bow and stern sealed compartments, full deck lines, bungee cords, easily adjustable seat, easily adjustable back rest, and easily adjustable foot braces. It is very light weight and very stable. But no matter how well outfitted, a 13-ft kayak will be slower than longer boats. There is no secret formula for making a 13-ft boat perform like a longer boat. If your friends have 16- or 17-ft boats, you will have trouble keeping up with them. I wish REI would offer a way to test paddle boats before purchase.

Comments about Delta Kayaks Twelve 10 Kayak:

I recently bought this boat to add to my collection of fast kayaks. I just wanted an easy to deal with boat and I think I found it. I'm 6'4" and about 200 lbs. I was surprised how well I fit in it. There's plenty of leg room and still enough room for gear. Although this is not a fast boat, it does get up and go with some strong paddling. My only complaint is that it doesn't track well without actively adjusting my heading, but after a while you learn to lean in order to keep it going straight. It's not a big deal, however a skeg or rudder option would be nice. It has a very nice polish, but seems to easily scratch. Overall the boat is very well made with great decking lines. I think its a great boat for everyone.

Comments about Delta Kayaks Twelve 10 Kayak:

The Delta 12-10 is a sleek and beautiful boat that is well-designed and well-built. No leaking hatches or creaking at the seams. Front and rear watertight compartments provide ample storage and double safety flotation. The hatch openings are large enough to fit a cooler and seal tightly with bungee cords. This boat is nicely appointed with deck bungees, side ropes, and a decent seat that slides up and back.

Getting in and out is okay for me at 5'9" and 190 lbs. Straddling the boat is awkward, so I normally balance my weight with the paddle placed behind the cockpit and slip my butt into the seat. The cockpit fits me quite well, although there isn't much room behind or to the sides of the seat to carry things. The paddle straps behind the cockpit are a nice touch that I use to lift the boat and occasionally to steady it when I rest next to the shoreline. It's nice to know they will firmly hold the paddle steady with a float if I need a wet re-entry.

I initially had some trouble tracking the boat in a straight line, but things got better as I adjusted the seat to distribute my weight. However, the Delta 12-10 tends to veer left or right when I stop paddling. Once I'm in the cockpit, the stability is very good and it handles waves decently. It does catch the wind and turn sideways fairly easily without a rudder or skeg to help. I mostly paddle lakes and the tidal Potomac, so I haven't exposed this boat to really rough or open water, although I believe it could handle those challenges. I tried it a couple of times on slow moving river rapids, but I don't want to tear it up so I'm getting a tougher and cheaper plastic boat for that.

Overall, this is a great kayak for a day's outing on flat water, which is what I do. I get lots of complements from people on the water and the shore as I paddle along. It goes a little over 3 mph for me with normal paddling, so it's not a real fast boat. On the other hand, the extra width makes it more stable and easier to enter.

I can also recommend this as a good boat for beginners who want to grow their skills and keep up with the crowd. That's what happened to me. I begin paddling last year, and returned my first boat, a Pungo 120, to Bean when I quickly realized it was too slow and moved like a barge. The Delta 12-10 is a sporty, safe, and responsive boat with plenty of storage that will get your juices flowing and make you feel proud to be out on the water. It's definitely worth paying the extra money to get a lighter kayak that is so impressive. You won't envy the other paddlers or regret buying it. In fact, I like it so much that I'm thinking about moving up to the Delta 15.5 if I can figure out where to put it...

Comments about Delta Kayaks Twelve 10 Kayak:

I took my Delta 12.10 out for the third time today, and each time I like it more. Today's trip was an eight-mile paddle on a lake with some fairly high swells. The 12.10 took it in stride, giving me confidence to tackle the bigger waves. Incidentally, I'm 5'7/170 lbs, and traded "down" from a 14.5 foot Perception sea kayak that I couldn't easily get up and down my cellar stairs or onto the top of my car. The 12.10, while smaller, doesn't sacrifice a thing in terms of stability and maneuverability, and is actually fast enough to keep up with most boats that are quite a bit longer. Fit and finish are top-notch. Try it and be impressed!

Comments about Delta Kayaks Twelve 10 Kayak:

Before purchasing this kayak, I examined numerous boats, looking for one that was safe (a boat with 2 bulkheads was a must), versatile, lightweight, and for use primarily in lakes and rivers. I was also looking for a boat that was relatively inexpensive, yet good-looking. I am happy to say that the Delta 12.10 thus far has exceeded my expectations.

I have paddled this boat on the nearby Occoquan Reservoir several times since purchasing it. The more I use the boat, the more I have come to respect and enjoy its many capabilities. It is well-built, safe (2 bulkheads), lightweight (only 43 pounds), easy-to-load and carry, and versatile enough for both day and weekend trips.

If you are in the market for a smaller sea kayak with most of capabilites of a larger sea kayak, you owe it to yourself to try this boat out.

Comments about Delta Kayaks Twelve 10 Kayak:

Great value boat for the price. Good features with two small exceptions. The Wilderness system seat with the ability to raise the seat under the thighs for better support would be a great addition. Also it would be better if I could adjust the seat or the thigh brace for a better fit for a shorter kayaker (I'm 5' 4"). Otherwise, it's pretty darned comfy, it's zippy and maneuverable, stable, and cute.
