Comments about NiteRider UltraFazer 3.0 Front Bike Light:

The comments regarding battery life are 100% accurate. I bought the light for commuting after it was recommended by an REI employee. I used it about 3 times replacing the battery twice. Once it was my fault because the 'easy to push' switch turned on the unit while in my backpack.

However, I put in fresh Duracells and placed the lights on the counter. In two days WITHOUT use the batteries were dead.

Comments about NiteRider UltraFazer 3.0 Front Bike Light:

I am having the same problem with battery drain. To make sure I wasn't leaving it on, I put fresh batteries in and left for a one week vacation.

When I came back, the light was very dim and the batteries were almost dead.

My light seemed to work OK for the first month or two before I began having these problems.

Batteries drain even with unit turned off.
Does not work unless the cover is in a perfect spot which is not completely closes which lets water get into the unit.

Comments about NiteRider UltraFazer 3.0 Front Bike Light:

Light is bright enough for bike paths. Battery life is great. I assume that mine is the newer model with the battery problem fixed.

        Light weight.
        Works well with NiMH batteries.

NiteRider needs to redesign the switch so it has a lockout for carrying in a pack.

I bought two- one for myself and wife. In less than one year both lights quit working. Mysteriously drained batteries. Light switch refused to turn light on and then refuses to turn light off. Total waste of money. I will stay away from NR products.

Comments about NiteRider UltraFazer 3.0 Front Bike Light:

I got this light in September 2007 and loved it. My first pair of batteries lasted two months. I then began having the ultra-short battery life problems described by others.

I just called NiteRider, and they said there is a design flaw in the UltraFazers, and they can consume more power while off than on. They said a new version is due out sometime in January, and they will mail a replacement to me.

Comments about NiteRider UltraFazer 3.0 Front Bike Light:

                  The specs say:
                  Battery life flashing 140 hours
                  Battery life steady 60 hours

I bought this light less than a month ago. I cycle with the light on for about 50 minutes, app 4 times a week commuting home from work. Within the first week, I went back to the store because I had no light. I thought it was the switch. Instead, the batteries were were dead. REI gave me new batteries saying maybe the first set had been on the self too long. The second set burned out within another week.
This light is satisfactory for night riding in areas where you don't need a bright light (e.g., along streets with some lights). If I keep going through batteries at the present rate, I'll replace the light with something else.

Comments about NiteRider UltraFazer 3.0 Front Bike Light:

This lamp eats batteries too fast. Returned one because it would chew up batteries when off and felt warm to the touch. The new lamp is affected by the cold where output is extremely reduced and it still eats batteries although not as fast. Try another model or manufacturer.

Comments about NiteRider UltraFazer 3.0 Front Bike Light:

Good light but terrible design for the switch, IMO. It is a spring-loaded switch that is very easily triggered inside a bike bag. I've wasted six pairs of AAs from accidentally turning it on inside my trunk. Now I wrap a thick rubber band around it lengthwise whenever I take it off -- prevents these accidents, at the cost of hassle.

I had the same problem with this light as the first reviewer. I would use it one night, go to use it the next day and the battery would be dead (I went through a 12 pack of AAs because of this...). [...], but I knew that something was wrong with mine when it felt warm to the touch even after being off for an entire day.To make a long story short, I took the light back to[...], got a new one, and I haven't had a problem with it since. It has pretty good visibility for a 3 LED light and the flashing mode is a nice touch.I hate to think that there may be some wiring issues with these lights that causes them to eat up batteries like crazy, but I would definitely keep an eye on how warm that thing gets when you throw the batteries in.Bottom line: If it's broken, take it back and exchange it for another, because it's a pretty good light.
