Comments about Julbo Advance Glacier Glasses - Photochromic:

While the lens protection is well above average and excellent and I wear the sunglasses daily..within 2 weeks of my purchase the rubber padding on the end of the frames kept coming off and eventually was lost. Without the padding there is a jagged metal piece...the nose padding also is coming loose. If the padding on the frames was fixed I would definitely recommend them!

Comments about Julbo Advance Glacier Glasses - Photochromic:

I've got the black frames. These are great glasses, but glad I tried them on. Glacier glasses really need to fit your face correctly to block out the reflected light around the edges. I have a medium sized face and they fit my face perfectly. Others cut into my eyebrow or had big gaps on the bottom corners. The lenses are fantastic. I wore them on Mt Elbrus and the weather was from bright sun on snow to heavy clouds and low light. I kept them on the whole time and the lenses worked great and changed with the light conditions. I was skeptical of the amber lenses but I ended up liking them in low light. I'm SOLD on the photochromatic lenses and have a pair of goggles too. I've known several guys to get snow blindness...not me, I never have to take them off. I have not had any issues yet with the rubber pieces falling off, but I can't rate them a 5 until I've worn them for at least a year.

Comments about Julbo Advance Glacier Glasses - Photochromic:

I've owned a pair of these glasses for over a year. Wore them every day. Everything is great with these glasses excpet for the rubber pieces. The first issue is at some point the rubber nose bridge is going to fall off. The glue that is used is inadequate. My glasses went in three times for warranty, each time replaced with new. I will say that Julbo USA steps up to the plate when it comes to the warranty. The other issue I had with these glasses was the rubber side shields are going to fade on you. Mine went from blue to an almost see through lite blue/green. The stems have a rubber protector that provides comfort behind your ear. Again, these are going to fade and at some point they start to fall off.

If your looking for glasses that your going to wear every day, and you don't mind sending something in for warranty, there great. If your looking for glasses that you will only use in hiking/mountaineering, then you can't go wrong.

Comments about Julbo Advance Glacier Glasses - Photochromic:

I really wanted to like these shades more than I do. I knew when I purchased these photochromic lenses that they would not be very dark. And in certain non-direct sunlight situations, such as snow shoeing or snow trekking on a cloudy day they work fine. But this is not the shade for you to be on the beach on a bright sunny day. While the lenses do have a nice golden amber hue to them in most situations I dont feel that they do an adequate job protecting my UV sensitive eyes.

The fact is in full sunshine my eyes are only tinted, not shaded with these glasses. My eyes are visible through the lenses when I am in full sunlight.

I will give Julbo kudos for having their replacement wear parts priced semi-reasonably. And the frames seem reasonable sturdy and mold to my face well enough to stay on while I'm active.

Another thing to consider is that these glasses are designed to have wear parts. That is to say all the soft rubber bits, while comfortable will eventually break down and tear. And this is with only moderate to heavy active use.

The eye shields on both sides have started to tear. As well as the rubber that covers the flex wire on the arms has also started to flake apart and expose the metal underneath.

In this price class I expect more from active wear sunglasses. In both materials and durability of materials. I'm not totally unhappy with this purchase, but I'm not totally plussed about it either. Good design never makes up for questionable materials. 2.5 stars out of 5

Comments about Julbo Advance Glacier Glasses - Photochromic:

I read the other reviews here and understand what people are talking about, but really have to share my thoughts. I was hesitant about the "photochromatic" route for glacier glasses at first. Your eyes are not something to mess around with. As it turns out I absolutely love these glasses and personally they are now my mainstay for many trips. I bought them as glacier glasses for an extended climbing/trekking trip, but on lightweight trekking, found that with the photochromatic lenses, they functioned perfectly for daily wear. As a guy who normally doesn't wear sunglassesunless absolutely required, these changed thngs for me. I now use these for not just the high mountains, but on most any monster trip they are one of the first things I pack. I have also started using these on the bike replacing my biking glasses for commuting, since they function so well in low or bright light conditions. The color on the tips did fade quickly (which I could care less about) but as I only use the sideshields for actual mountaineering I have not seen the fading there - but I believe it would happen. I also temorarily lost one of the sideshields, but easily and cheaply ([$] I think?) bought a replacement set from Julbo - they were great. I honestly would give these 5 stars as I haven't had any problems, but my one negative comment is that in extreme bright conditions on glaciers in the sun, I felt that there was more space between the bottom of the lenses and my face than I liked, feeling like there was extra light leakage below. You can tell these are not designed for a complete seal vs expedition glasses. Maybe I just need fatter cheeks. Otherwise, I have absolutely loved these glasses.

Comments about Julbo Advance Glacier Glasses - Photochromic:

I've used these glasses for two climbing season, including multiple Mt. Rainier ascents and many other high-altitude snow climbs. I LOVE the photochromatic qualities of these lenses, as I can put them on in the dim light of early morning and take them off when it's time to turn on the headlamp. HOWEVER, I've come to the conclusion that these glasses do not offer enough protection on really bright, high altitude days. I just came off a Rainier climb yesterday (not a cloud in the sky all day) and my eyes felt like I had sand in them last night.

I'm not sure if this is a function of the lenses not providing enough protection, or the fact that there is plenty of room around the frames for glare to get in. I think it is the later.

So, in summary, I'd say these are fantastic, all around glasses for all but the very harshest conditions, in which case you do need more.

Comments about Julbo Advance Glacier Glasses - Photochromic:

Have used mine for 3 years alpine use from Switzerland to Peru. Fit great (medium size square face). I'm not the best at looking after my disposables, even so, the lenses are still without scratches however there's precious little color left on the frame. This color rubs off with sweat, grease, suntan lotion etc. Not that I care as I'd rather look weather beaten than fresh out off the catwalk. The rubber covers on the frame ends do break (the metal tips are sharp), they drop off and have been lost at the most inopportune moment. However, Jublo sent me out replacement sets for free and with no postage charge. So I would recommend any buyer to get in touch with them and order a set or two before you do lose them. I really can't fault these.
