Comments about Nike+ iPod Sport Kit:

The Nike Plus just plain works, but there's a major catch (read below). I've used it with my 3rd Gen Nano and my wife's 2nd Gen Nano without a glitch on either. Beyond easy to set up. The other reviewer was right - you have to buy the compatible Nike shoes (which REI doesn't sell) or a strap-like device to hold the sensor to your laces (which REI also doesn't sell).

Here's where they get you in the long run (yes, pun intended). I bought the Nike Plus last fall and used it on about 10 runs, about 4-8 miles each, before winter arrived. I don't usually run over the winter, but spring is about to spring, so I busted out my trusty Nike Plus this weekend. I was all excited to do a whole season's worth of running with my Nike Plus. But get this - the sensor's battery is dead and it can't be replaced. The whole kit is now totally useless. Of course I would have known to expect that if I had read the grayed-out 4-point small print on Nike's website. It clearly states that the sensor's battery can not be replaced.

So here I am with a Nike Plus receiver that is useless without a sensor. I have to go out & buy a whole new kit. I run a lot in the spring, summer, and fall, so it's probably safe to say I'll have to buy 2-3 complete kits per year. At this rate it will only take about 3 years before the money I've spent on Nike Plus kits could have paid for a new Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS watch (which REI sells).

So all in all, Nike Plus has a few major minuses. It's a sweet gadget, but I don't like feeling like a sucker. Let's face it - Nike could have easily set this thing up with a replaceable battery. But then suckers like you & me wouldn't buy 2-3 new kits every year. How are they supposed to make any money by only selling people one?!?

Comments about Nike+ iPod Sport Kit:

I bought this to provide some motivation while running. Overall, it's a lot of fun and the feedback it provides is great. However, there are 2 major issues:1) Battery life. My sensor died after just 45 hours of use despite a claimed life of 1000 hours. When I called Apple they said it was out of warranty and I'd have to buy a new sensor. Very unimpressed. Fortunately, I bought it from REI so I was able to return for a new one.2) Accuracy. I calibrated mine by running and then walking 2 miles on a track and despite this it's very inaccurate. I laid out a 5 mile course using a GPS but the Nike+ unit says I ran 6.01 miles. On a 7 mile course laid out with a GPS it says ran 8.59 miles. I recalibrated the unit using a 4 mile road course that includes some rolling hills and even then it's still quite inaccurate.Bottom line, it's a fun toy but given the lack of accuracy I wouldn't use it for serious training. This product is easy to use and set up. it beats wearing a watch. If you intend to shelf it for a while there is a turn off button on the back that conserves the battery. I wear Asics shoes so I just cut out a small hole in my insole to put the sensor under my arch and I don't even feel the sensor. It takes running to a whole new level. Definitely worth the money.

Ditch the treadmill and get Nike Plus!

Comments about Nike+ iPod Sport Kit:

This is the best product ever! It totally energized my running. No longer am I a solitary runner...with my trusty laptop and my nike plus sensor, I have a army of running buddies waiting for me on the nike plus website. And if you log on regularly, you get invited to participate in other running events online by event coordinators...or you can pick your own race....or you can create one and invite people yourself!

Warning! Nike plus is addictive! I've driven back home to get my sensor b/c I didn't want to run without the "proof" to upload to the website to mark my progress and I've ditched workouts when I couldn't get my IPOD to work with it once or twice. But I love logging miles, analyzing the results, and keeping up with my newbie running buds. Great way to keep in contact with the local running club when you are on travel too!

I wish nike plus would create something you could use on the bike, elliptical or stair stepper, but you have to start somewhere!!

Comments about Nike+ iPod Sport Kit:

I have had an IPOD Nano for some time and when I heard about Nike+ iPod Sport Kit by Nike+, I first checked for the price. When I saw it was good reasonabily priced I said I would give it try. That was probably one the best decisions I have made about my running performance. I have a state of the art "life fitness" treadmill at home, and I havenot been using it since the day I received my Nike+ iPod Sport Kit. It is easy to operate, it is unbelievably accurate, it is durable (I even accidently machine washed my shoes!) and most of it all it really motivates you to perform. You can upload your data to nike website and track your performance. Besides, when you perform a record, you hear Lance speaking... That's fun as well...

this device is a real winner! you don't have to look at your watch again...just push a button and your current distance/pace/etc drift into your ears and then your music/podcast just continues. It automatically downloads your workout to a personalized traiing website and keeps track of your workout history (graphs enough to warm an engineers heart!)...simplicity itself and for nike, really cheap!...nike has a realy winner here lots of runners i know have just chucked their running watches...just do it, nike!

Comments about Nike+ iPod Sport Kit:

This product works very well for what it's supposed to do. The Nike Ipod Sports Kit gives accurate readings and allows you to create running goals online. I know for a fact that the measurements are correct, because the first time I used it, I tested it on a 400m track. Thre reading ti gave was .4km. THERE IS SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT YOU HAVE TO BE AWARE OF WHEN YOU BUY THIS PRODUCT. For it to work, you have to have a Ipod nano (I don't know if 3rd generation works, 2nd does) and you have to have a case for it. The case keeps the sensor protected and gives accurate readings. Either you buy the [$] Nike shoes that hold this product, or you go [...]and buy the Sportsuit Sensor+ for about [$] with shipping. This is what I have and it works great. All in all, this is a great product, but you have to buy extra equiptment.

I find the Nike+ system to bring all the benefits of the information provided by the treadmill to the road. I get mileage, calories, pace, and a database that breaks it down.
