Comments about Kelty Villa 4 Tent:
This tent has obvious issues with the fly. If you tighten it to remove the sag--then you cannot zip the doors. I sent mine back to Kelty after one use with zipper failure and the above stated issues. But, with the price dropping and the many similar postings with same issues. I look for this tent to be discontinued. They are sending me another, and stated that it had to be properly staked to work. Every other "freestanding" tent I've ever seen didn't need to be staked and worked fine. I did stake this tent from the beginning, before inserting poles and still had trouble with the doors. I replaced this tent with a tent a third the price and it works like a charm. I have owned many tents in my 40+ years of backpacking. This is my first 4 person and expected a lot more from Kelty. I love the concept, but something is bad wrong with the design, manufacturing,???

Comments about Kelty Villa 4 Tent:
We used this tent for a two week holiday during which we set it up seven times. On the plus side, it is easy to set up and pack up (but it does take two). It kept us dry in a thunderstorm in Mesa Verde but the problems with the fly design meant that rain water pooled on the dome of the tent (which can't be right) and means I have to give this a lower rating than I'd like. There didn't seem to be any way to solve this problem and get the correct tension into the peak of the fly.

Comments about Kelty Villa 4 Tent:
This is a great tent other than a few problems we experienced. The first problem we encountered had to do with the edges of the tent not going all the way down to the ground. There was a one inch gap between the ground and the edges of the tent. The other problem was with the fly; it did not fit tight on the top however it was very tight along the zipper making it hard to open. The internal features are great; it has 4 mesh pockets between the door and an additional mesh pocket on the other side of each door. There are also internal hooks on the ceiling allowing an interior shelf, included, to be hung. All in all a great spacious tent which is easy to set up, even at midnight using headlamps. We returned the first one we had for a new one. We look forward to trying the new one out in hopes that the problems we had were limited to the first one we bought.

Comments about Kelty Villa 4 Tent:
Use for camping while river running in the west.Ground cloth position under the tent not obvious by appearance and no instructions. Rainfly doesn't drain at the dome and is so tight on the sides the zippers don't close without excessive force and will soon fail. The pole connection with foot of the tent requires a lot of hand and arm strength, and is very sticky when sandy.

Comments about Kelty Villa 4 Tent:
With the adjustments on the loosest setting the rain fly fitting is far too tight along door way areas such that it requires excessive force to operate the zipper. Each of the two zippers on this one stripped out.
Ventilation is good, and the tent otherwise appears sturdy. The setup time is too long.
I was interested in the Kelty as the rain fly extended all the way to the ground, but I would recommend purchasing a different tent. I'm returning this one.

Comments about Kelty Villa 4 Tent:
The design is superb. Sturdy feel, quality poles. Considering the length of poles, easy to setup in 5 to 10 min(faster with 2 people). Very roomy inside, 2 tall doors. Love the outdoor shelves, vents/windows, inside pockets and attic, the metal clips for inserting the poles. Not too heavy or bulky for car-camping. Doors don't zip up evenly, smoothly b/c there is something uneven with the fly or floor. (The 2nd tent I tried was worse; had to return the first tent b/c the zipper snagged and then always jumped after that.) We got rained on for days and we stayed real dry inside...even though there was a slight sag on the top fly. Found 3 adults to be on the cramped size for my liking. Not sure if the tent "settles" or if some flys just fit better? Worth checking out if you have time.

Comments about Kelty Villa 4 Tent:
Despite all the poor comments below, I decided to get this cause - hey, it's REI. If I don't like, I'd return it. I set it up as soon as I bought it at home, and have had no problems. The connections definitely are tight, as people mentioned. But everything goes together; the fly fits fine. For the price, you can't beat it. And if there's problems down the road...return it for full refund. REI stands behind their products!

Comments about Kelty Villa 4 Tent:
The Villa 4 makes a nice basecamp tent for extended trips. It's weight and size is more than I would bother with for a simple over nighter but for a 3+ day trip it's very nice. The cargo shelf helps with drying out socks and keeping my boots from crowding the tent. Although fairly standard on larger dome tents, the two doors are still a nice feature in the night when I need to get up and everyone needs to sleep.
