Comments about Montrail Torre GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
Best boots I've ever owned. The last pair I had lasted me 5 years and a ton of miles, before I had to buy new ones. Both pairs never required any break-in. Perfect for people with wide feet. Awesome in cold winters and hot summers. Very water-proof, never one leak. Maybe a bit clunky, but make up for it in protection and support. A must try for people with wide feet! I hope REI sells them forever!

Comments about Montrail Torre GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
I wore these Backpacking in the Grand Canyon and the Smoky Mountains as well as numerous day trips. They work wonderfully. However, They gave me a lot of blisters until they were broken in. It took about 2 weeks of day hikes to break in. They are stiff and offer a lot of support. They are very waterproof, about the only time my feet got soaked is when I was crossing a shallow stream and I stepped into a deep pit.
They are also heavy but that's to be expected from a backpacking boot.
I also used these boots snow shoeing and they worked great here as well. My feet stayed dry but cold.

Comments about Montrail Torre GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
This is an exceptional boot off trail over scree and talus with a 40-50 lb pack. It is clunky if used for day hikes or really light packs. I recently upgraded to the wide version in this model from the previous model. Montrail Torre has been, for me, the most comfortable backpacking boot I have owned (Asolo, Vasque, Lowa being the others). These boots are not as comfortable as the prior model and seem a bit heavier. This might be the “wide” version just feeling different. However they are truly water resistant and have great build quality. They do not get heavy after long exposure to the water. They have exceptional grip on rock. They are closer in feel to a mountaineering boot than a mid weight boot. The sole and shank combination is quite stiff and the upper is “mid range” in flexibility. They provide good ankle protection and tend to feel made for average heel/foot width combinations.

I switched from the Vasque brand to get the size 12 and a half and to get away from Vasque's toe box shape. These heavy, stable boots give my narrow heels and wider toes just what I need. Break in is fast, traction is excellent as is stability. I could use a little less weight however.

Comments about Montrail Torre GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
I am done with these boots. The sole is so slippery I would not recommend them for NW hiking. They are dangerous on a snow field and even on wet rocks that are on a hiking trail. They may have a Vibram sole but who cares. Vibram soles come in many different hardnesses which effects the grip, just like tires come with different traction ratings. [...] Just wasted my time.

Comments about Montrail Torre GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
Broke them in on a 40-mile hike in CO back country, stumpy, rocky trails, no trails, bogs. No heel pain (problem for me), room for my wide feet, and no aching pain at the end of the days (getting old, dammit), all with 45-lb pack. My right foot is 1/2 size larger than left, and they accommodated. Required moleskin on a calloused toe on a 12-mile day with long descent, on the smaller foot, but was able to readjust laces tight enough to avoid blister. Stayed dry through the bogs. A little warm in warm weather. Can't comment yet on the durability problems mentioned by some others. My old Vasques fit lengthwise, but too narrow in the toe box.

These boots are great right out of the box.I'm a big man 6'3",272lbs with size 13E feet.I've had difficult times over the years finding a boot thats works for me and I've had them all.I've never had a pair of boots fit this well. They are a little heavy but the comfort and feel far outweigh them being "a little heavy".Great boot!!

Comments about Montrail Torre GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
These are GREAT boots period. I have used these boots any time I have an excuse and they are amazing. Despite all the abuse I have put into these guys they still look almost new, and work like they are. The traction on these boots is incredible; they work great up hill, down hill, dusty, slippery, wet, slimy, and even oily. Last time I want backpacking I was they only one in my group that could grip a 60 degree angle using just my toes. I splashed through small puddles and streams with these guys and they not only resist water but once it gets inside your boot when you go too deep, it dries in less than 1/2 an hour. One of my favorite things is that no matter how sharp the object you step on or how heavy the rock that falls on your foot, you don,t feel a thing. All in all, these are a great pair of boots and I recommend them to everyone.

Comments about Montrail Torre GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
Well, got these a while ago for my Geological activities which usually resemble off trail scrambling and wading though cacti. These boots perform this task quite well, but they're not the most breathable. I tried to hike with these in snow and wet grass. They seemed to leak A LOT, or it felt that way as my toes were going numb. The leaking might have been induced by the cacti wading, but not 100%. I also noticed that in cold weather, my toes go numb either because these boots are not the most insulated, or I wear thick socks which cramp my foot and cut off easy circulation.
Over all great boots, but I'd recommend getting a half size to a full size bigger if you plan to do cold stuff. I'd also bring an extra pair of socks and some sno-seal just incase.

Comments about Montrail Torre GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
I bought these boots almost one year ago. I picked them mostly because they were one of the only boots I could find in a wide width. Fortune smiled upon me that day, friends.
Not only did these boots fit comfortably, which I know you other wide-footed folks can appreciate, they felt natural! They are stiff enough on rocky terrain but flex well enough to not cause any hot spots or blisters, even on long hikes (with my Bridgedale socks).
These boots can scramble up boulders, pound pavement, handle regular trails and even blaze new ones. I have used them in conditions of 105 degrees Fahrenheit and near zero humidity to 30F and wet, with no issues when coupled with wool socks and a 40 pound pack.
The only complaint I have is the weight, but that is a minor complaint, given how well these boots perform. I have tried others but this boot is tops for me! Still, that is a complaint so I give it 4 instead of 5 stars.
Finally, a true, wide, non-slip, waterproof, comfortable boot; despite the weight!
