Comments about Columbia Sportswear Silver Ridge Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
I own over half dozen hiking pants; these come in as a close second to my favorite. They are of a heavier fabric then my other synthetics, and are my go-to synthetic pair for winter wear. I’ve worn these backpacking, day hikes, base camping, and a mission trip to rural India.
Pros:
- They are of superior quality.
- They are synthetic.
- They are very comfortable.
- They do not pile.
- So far, all the dirt and stains have come out in the wash, including field washing with “Campsuds.”
- They are very durable.
- The zippered pockets are ok. I can feel confident with putting my wallet and car keys in that pocket, and not worry about them falling out along the trail somewhere. However, for comfort and ease of access with a pack, I prefer a zippered cargo pocket (as in the REI brand).
- Having ankle zippers are great! My first pair of convertible pants lacked these, which means taking off my boots with those to put the pants legs off and on; I’ll never buy convertible pants without ankle zippers again.
- I like being able to use my own belt, rather than a built in belt. I use a webbing strap as a belt, and therefore that webbing doubles as a spare functional strap.
Cons:
- There is no right/left leg indicator, so occasionally I end up trying to reattach the wrong leg bottom.
- My wife tells me none of my convertible pants are very stylish for around town wear, but I bought these for function not style. For hiking and third world mission trips, I like the style just fine.
Mixture of Pros/Cons:
- The zippers and snap are of great quality (better than my other convertible pants), but that also adds to the weight (I prefer reliable quality over light weight).
- The material is heavier than some of my other pants, making it a bit warm for hot summer days, take a little longer to dry (but still faster than cotton), and weigh more for backpacking. However, they also resist penetrating thorns and abrasions better than my other pants, are more comfortable for cool nights, cold winter days, and windy peaks, and will probably resist wear longer than any of my others.
When I wear out one of my other pairs of hiking pants, I expect to replace them with a pair of Columbia convertibles.

Comments about Columbia Sportswear Silver Ridge Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
This is a great, versatile pair of pants. I bought these for a backpack trip to Europe for their versatility, and I was very pleased. I found this particular brand to be very comfortable with good sized pockets. The two things that prevent this from being a perfect rating are the belt (separate and not part of the pant which can cause discomfort around the waste) and the length of the shorts (not quite as long as I would have liked). Otherwise, I am completely satisfied with this purchase.

Comments about Columbia Sportswear Silver Ridge Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
I've got some of REI's store brand convertible pants (the Sahara) and prefer these. I only zipped the legs off once or twice, but it's handy when you need it.
They're a pretty lightweight fabric, but pretty sturdy. They have solid sun protection- I wore them all day in Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Thailand, and didn't get burned through them. (That sounds stupid but when you're as pasty white as me, it's something to consider.)
Best part was that they fit really well (well, fit ME really well) and a good fabric for that hot, steamy weather you get in SE Asia. Dried quickly, resisted stains, cleaned well... pretty much everything you would want in some pants.
Only execption is that I like to carry my wallet/passport in a front pocket, and none of the front pockets have a zippered or fully-secure velcro closure.
It's not a huge issue- you'd have to be pretty active for something to fall out- but when doing vacation travel, wandering around looking at the sights, it's easy to be pickpocketed.
All in all, great pants. Look at it this way- I'm buying another pair of them. Can you get a better recommendation than that?

I wear a full knee brace and there is plenty of room for the brace and still enough give for scrambling over rocks for an approach. Will be great for some summer hiking in North Carolina and Ohio.

Comments about Columbia Sportswear Silver Ridge Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
Wore these incredible pants going down the Upper Section of the Ocoee River. Getting wet was inevitable but no fear for these pants were designed for practically anything. I zipped of the bottom leggings and stowed them in the cargo pockets. They were dry in a matter of minutes after leaving the water. Best outdoor pants! Great for the summer. Zip off bottoms leggings when too hot during the middle of the day; then at night just zip em right back on. If you are planning on going on a day hike, play on the water, or just need a good pair of pants, choose these.
