Comments about REI One Gloves - Men's:

This glove is well fitting and is great for cross-country skiing or running in cool windy weather. It will fend off light snow and misting rain, however, the palms are in no way water resistant and soak up water like a chamois once wet. If they do get wet, don't plan on them drying out any time soon.

Pros

  • Good dexterity
  • Good Grip
  • Great Insulation

Cons

  • Moisture resistance

Best Uses

  • Casual Wear
  • Hiking

Comments about REI One Gloves - Men's:

I bought these gloves as a light layer of protection for some spring skiing. I don't need very bulky gloves for warm weather skiing, just a little bit of protection while maintaining dexterity. They provide good grip/wind protection, but will absorb moisture when exposed to wet conditions. Overall, they are good gloves, and an excellent value.

Comments about REI One Gloves - Men's:

I take these gloves EVERYWHERE in the back country, I use Trekking Poles all the time and these keep my hands and Wrists from getting raw. I made a mistake a while back of using them with sunscreen on my hands, the seams that a previous reviewer complained about got even more irritating (not the fault of the gloves). I added some REI Oslo liners, this alleviated the seam issue, made them good and warm and much more flexible. My hands get cold VERY easily, this has worked into a proven system.

I've found it very important to protect your hands, these do the job.

Comments about REI One Gloves - Men's:

These gloves are awesome if you use them for what they are ment for. This is the best cool weather glove I have ever found for aerobic sports. I used them for mtb/road cycling and mountaineering. They can handle a good range of temps without having your hands sweat, they are wind proof and way more water resistance than fleece or nylon. They are warmer than cycling gloves but dont expect to be waiting at the bus stop in Jan. and feel toasty.

Comments about REI One Gloves - Men's:

I've used the gloves for a number of activities ranging from cool-weather biking to hiking to skiing. They aren't that great for anything.

I figured they'd be a light softshell which would dry quickly but still provide some warmth and protection. Minimal protection, yes, but as the other reviewers said, the palms soak up water like a sponge -- if you are doing anything that involves water (read: snow sports) they make your hands almost as cold as wearing no gloves.

I can't honestly think of anything for which these gloves outperform, say, the marmot evolution gloves. I got them originally because my marmots were wearing out in the fingertips, but after only one season I wore a hole in the finger of my one gloves. Not in the seams, right through the fabric.

Pass -- there are plenty of other gloves out there that are better in every aspect.

Comments about REI One Gloves - Men's:

These gloves are comfortable to wear on cool weather hikes, those in the 20s and 30s, but don't think that they'll keep your hands all that warm or dry at all. Any water that gets on them, gets through them; and as for keeping your hands warm, they're little more than a windbreaker.

Comments about REI One Gloves - Men's:

I think some soft-shell materials are better than others; polartec powershield, which this glove uses, is among the best.

I have a number of soft-shell gloves; I view them in the same light as soft-jackets: they should be able to shed wind and light moisture/snow and give you breathable protection in a range of conditions.

These gloves score fine on that scale. The problem is in the manufacturing: the sewn seams on the interior of the glove are distractingly uncomfortable. And I cannot say why, but these soft shell gloves feel colder than others I use (that's surprising, because I don't get cold easily, so I tend not to be bothered by it). So, these gloves should be confined to use in high-output situations.

They're not bad, but they're only okay.
