Comments about Camper's Dream Mega Ice Cream Maker:
I have used this with my kids for a few years now. Whenever we go camping in warm weather, it goes with us. Friends kids ask me to bring it whenever we go, warm or cold because it is so much fun. While I agree it takes some work (ice, salt, ingredients, cleaning, etc...) it is very fun for the young ones. I don’t bring it along when only camping with adults but I have in the past. I don’t know what the few other reviews did wrong, but it freezes quite hard and taste great. (We like crushing peaches and adding to vanilla recipe) If you have kids, get it!
Note: Don’t kick it around like they say, it’s heavy when loaded and solid so it hurts. We use it like a bowling ball or bocce ball and play games with it. Have fun!

Comments about Camper's Dream Mega Ice Cream Maker:
Lots of fun to make ice cream, kids love passing it around, rolling it, playing with it all the while making ice cream. I've used it at home, in campgrounds, brought it to BBQs, and it's just fun to get everyone involved and earning their dessert. Very sturdy and an elegant design. For cleaning, it's great to have a hose or a spigot, or a deep kitchen sink.

Just a great treat, to have ice cream on the river with fresh berries! It was unexpected and delicious to have ice cream in the middle of the river trip. The ball was sturdy and made enough for all 9 of us to have a dish-full. It was no problem finding someone willing to roll the ball back and forth and it froze the cream very quickly.

Comments about Camper's Dream Mega Ice Cream Maker:
We have used the ice cream ball while camping and with my pre-schooler's class. The adults had as much fun with it as the kids. It freezes faster and harder with heavy whipping cream than either the half & half, or the old-fashioned chocolate milk we used. The rich chocolate milk gave us a milkshake consisitancy. I have not tried the classic custard-type recipes yet so I don't know how they turn out. You must scrape the insides down every 5-10 minutes with a rigid long-handled spoon to help it freeze faster and more evenly. This also keeps the top easier to open. It takes up about the same space as a soccerball. The ball does tend to sweat so a towel is good to have on hand to wipe it down every now & again. This thing is lots of fun and will make a great gift too!

Pros:
I first started using this a few years ago at the day camp I worked at, and we gave this thing hell. We had two of them and they got daily use during the summer. We would run them up big hills and let them go. They would reach high speeds and then hit trees, rocks stumps you name it, and they never broke. What did kill one of them was a camper throwing it against the corner of a wooden table. The other one lasted for years and is probably still going strong.
Cons:
They are REALLY hard to open after you make the ice cream. You have to use a lot of force to close them so that the ice cream does not come out, and it becomes nearly impossible to open after it roles around for an hour. Several times it took two full grown men twisting the top to get it to open.
It takes about an hour to make good ice cream, and not the 30 min that it claims. But the ice cream is great!

I actually got the smaller one (pint size) as a gift for Christmas and I love it!! I made Peanut butter cup ice cream the first time and it came out great. I did my ab workout while shaking it so I could justify the ice cream after. It made about 3 generous servings. I am a HUGE ice cream critic and this made some great ice cream and you know exactly what is going in it. You will work for it but it is worth it on the other end. So far I only used heavy cream but it turned out fantastic. Off to try more flavors! Well worth the money for the ice cream fanatic in your life.

Comments about Camper's Dream Mega Ice Cream Maker:
I was really excited about this product at first, but once we started the trial run we quickly learned that it leaves alot to be desired. Once we filled it with ice and the mixed liquids it became extremely heavy and cumbersome. We were hardly able to "play around" with it and resorted to rolling it on the grass. Allow for more than an hour for a soft serve product to become available, and we found once finished the texture was quite icy. I'm taking it back soon...!
