Comments about Celestron SkyScout Personal Planetarium:
I have now used this for one year on Boy Scout Campouts. This has been a fabulous hit with kids and adults alike. The GPS technology is "off the hook" and will keep you entertained for hours.
We have the boys locate a star or planet, read the text out loud and pass it on to the next boy around the campfire.
The audio feature is nice, but burns your AAs at about twice the rate.
This is idea for camping, at the beach or hunting lease.
It will blow your friends away.

Comments about Celestron SkyScout Personal Planetarium:
The Sky Scout is very easy to use, It works totaly off of GPS, and there for you can even use it during the day, all though there is not much to see durn the day. [...] Such as extra programs, and data. It can be mounted to a telescope, or Bionoculars. One of the first things to do when you get your Sky Scout, is to Up date it via your computer. It comes with the software and a USB Cable, to install on your computer. This allows its software and data to be update via the internet.

Comments about Celestron SkyScout Personal Planetarium:
This is a Great Big Boy Toy. If only I had had this as a kid! But there were no GPS in Orbit then! It works exactly as advertised. I put Lithium Bunny Batteries in mine to prevent any damage from leakage and provide a first class power source. It is very well made, but as with any optical instrument you must be careful with it. Use the correct lens cloths for instance. Don't drop it.
The only negative I have is that it is sophisticated (complicated), and you will have to read the instructions which are in written form as well as the included Computerized CD that comes with it. It has a USB cord and will link to your laptop. Have'nt done that yet.
It is worth your time to learn it's features, options and proper usage. It's almost like having your own Carl Sagan over your shoulder. Does'nt get much better than that. Not until the next generation with holograms comes around.
It's completely portable and lightweight, so taking it with you on trips would be a no brainer. It's worth its space in your luggage.
For the price this is an excellent product, I would recommend it to anyone. I will be ordering the upgrade plugins for mine which expand it's database and also mean it will never be obsolete. Always upgradeable. And the optional external speaker as well.
It would be an excellent lifetime gift for age appropriate kids. An outstanding gift from an Uncle, Aunt, or Grandparents.
Happy Stargazing.

I want to take this thing to Palau with me on our biannual fishing tourneys. Will this unit track the stars in this hemisphere? Or is it for use only in N. America? Thanks anyone.
