Comments about Vasque Kota XCR Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I just bought my fifth pair of these boots. I buy a new pair in the spring and in the fall. They are very comfortable and light weight but only last for about 200 miles.
I use them for desert hiking on steep rocky trails with a 20 lb day pack and a 30 lb backpack. (Water's heavy.)
I originally bought them because they allow full ankle movement on steep slopes. I've stayed with them because they are very comfortable and light weight.
Friends have bought these boots and all have had a problem with the toe guard coming loose from the boot by the time the boots have less than 100 miles on them. (My first pair failed after less than 30 miles--which I returned). We now use Gorilla glue at the first sign of separation.
By the time the shoes have about 200 miles on them, the soles are coming loose from the boot at the sides of the toe and the heel. The lugs are close to being worn down. The soles aren't replaceable but the rest of the boot is close to being worn out so you wouldn't want to resole them anyhow.
I understand the trade offs between soft rubber for traction and long wear and will opt for traction.
I don't understand why Kota can't solve the separation problems with the toe guard and the sides of the sole. (I understand from the shoe clerks that other's have complained about it.)

Comments about Vasque Kota XCR Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
Boots are very comfortable and handle great on trails. Only downside I have found is there is no traction when crossing rivers. I had on a 5 dollar pair of water shoes and didnt fall once. As soon as I put these on I fell about 7-8 times. Other than that great boot, dries fast, very comfortable.

Comments about Vasque Kota XCR Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
Excellent trail boot for wet or dry conditions; very comfortable and light and my feet never feel too warm in them. I had an opportunity to hike up 12000+ Mt Adams in SW Washington only one week after buying my Vasque Kotas. They felt so comfortable that I decided to use them on the climb even though I had never even walked around the block in them. Not a smart thing to do but they were flawless on dry trail and in the snow.

I used these Vasques to backpack all 205 miles of the Superior Hiking Trail in 10 days. They performed like champions and kept my feet dry, were comfortable to put on each morning, and the soles looked like new when I finished. I carried a 35-40 lb load and they provided plenty of support. Extremely pleased with the Kota's.

Bought these in Colorado and did some very rough hikes in them. They held up great. Very waterproof. Good boots. I didn't give it 5 stars because I did blister up pretty good, but that could be because they weren't broken in. Not sure.

Comments about Vasque Kota XCR Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I bought these boots on a Saturday, took them to the summit of Mt. Sherman (14,036') on Sunday. Not the smartest thing with no break in time, but they worked perfectly. They had great traction on the rocks and even handled the snow nicely. I'm not in the best shape so the light weight was certainly appreciated. The only gripe that I might have is that they can get a little warm. But, my feet never felt soggy due to the use of good socks.

Comments about Vasque Kota XCR Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
These are awesome light hikers. They provide great support in such a light package. Traction is good as well. I would consider using these instead of more serious boots for most hikes. Only possible con is that as they are waterproof, they are a little warm for summer hikes in southern California. That gore-tex relies on more of a temperature differrential to work.

Got these for a trip to Iceland. They handled everything. My feet felt great the whole trip. My wife has the same shoes and we both love them. Lightweight yet very sturdy. They served us well hiking trails, volcanoes, and glaciers. I've had them for about 7 months now.

I bought the Kota mid for a hut to hut hiking trip in the Austrian Alps with a 20-25 lb pack. I have mid to slightly wide feet with a low arch and the boots fit great. After a short break-in period I hiked two long days with significant elevation change and had no foot pains or blisters. The boots performed great on rocky trails some that were covered in snow and ice where I had to kick 'mini-steps.' I have big feet and these fit like a glove and make me feel very agile. Great boots!

Comments about Vasque Kota XCR Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I bought these hikers for a 5 day CDT trip this September. I needed to loose some weight in the boot area and these did the trick. I was not real sure how they would handle the trail but in the end I was very satisfied with their ability.
27 miles of the CDT in the Weminuche Wilderness with rain every day was enough to convince me that these hikers could handle everything I needed them to.
They stayed dry through 4 miles of downpour. I did have gaiters on but the Goretex XCR never leaked. The shoes were stable enough with my 35 lb. pack on the uneven terrain of the San Juans. would not hesitate to wear these on another long pack trip.
My only concerns were that I felt the toe box was a bit too wide for my feet even with Superfeet and that the laces are too long.
