      Rarely is it very cold here, and our kids quickly shed jackets once heartrates rise. This vest is usually enough to provide core warmth on fall and winter days or spring evenings. Our kids tend to keep their vests on during active play, so the vest seems to give that balance of "comfortable" warmth in this climate.

      Sized a bit snugly because they're meant to be layered over. We buy a size up for a looser fit and to get more value from each size.

      Very nice construction details. From the contour-map themed trim fabric to the chin protector, name label, and fun designs "embossed" into the fabric. These designs shave some fabric away, apparently making the fleece a bit more breathable as well. This works great for when layering under other cold-weather gear, but it also seems good for warmer climates when the vest is the lone outerwear piece and just needs to provide that bit of non-bulky warmth to keep the kids happy on a November day. Also, these non-bulky vests stow nicely in a diaper bag, so there's less chance of not having a jacket because we ended up staying out later than planned.

      Solid construction, yet allows my toddler to move around freely. Your child won't even notice that they're wearing it. He/she will out-grow it long before it wears out, and will keep them warm throughout. It may not be pretty, but it gets the job done... over, and over, and over... That's why I buy REI, ugly items that can go anywhere. REI should sell Jeeps!

        We recently moved to the Southern Region of Chile where it gets pretty cold. My daughter is a warm blooded child and prefer's this vest over layers of clothes. It not only is lightweight but keeps her chest covered and warm. It fits beautifully under the REI Fleece Jacket as well without bulking up. Since layering is key in Chile, this vest was particularly great because it has a piece of matetial that covers the zipper and prevents zipper chaffing under your child's chin. 5 star and a must have for parents!

          It's hard to find "adult" styled clothing for little ones- especially outerwear. This vest is great, well made and affordable. The only negative is that I wish it had come in green so we could use it for a boy if we have another child.
