Comments about Gerber EVO Titanium-Coated Serrated Knife:
I'm very picky about my knives, so for me "average" is good praise.
As a basic pocket knife, this is a good inexpensive tool. It is indeed slim and light, sharp out of the package, and has a nice feel to it. There are significant compromises in its design and materials compared to premium knives, but given the price, this is to be expected.
1. The blade material, 440C Stainless, is on the soft side, and will lose its edge more quickly than harder alloys.
2. The blade itself is thin, and will not stand up to heavy abuse.
3. The pivot will work itself loose after a while.
4. Opening one-handed is difficult (and a little dangerous... if you're pushing hard to open it with the thumb-bolt and it opens suddenly, if you slip you've got a LOT of force driving your thumb against that blade). This will get better with time, but at the direct cost of a tight lock-up.
5. Compound edges (part serrated) are notoriously difficult to sharpen without harming the serrated portion of the blade.
That being said, it's certainly unfair to compare this to a nice Benchmade costing four times as much. It's a fine light-duty knife, aesthetically pleasing, unlikely to alarm co-workers, and is useful for daily around-the-office tasks. I'd definitely want something sturdier in the back country, particularly if I were carrying only a single knife.

Comments about Gerber EVO Titanium-Coated Serrated Knife:
For the first 3 months, I enjoyed the knife immensely - has a great blade, shape and it is light weight. Unfortunately it fist started to rattle, then quickly fell apart as the hex screws came loose. If you look at the knife you can understand my difficulty in fixing it. I then swapped it out for another one (same model) but the exact same thing happened, but this second time I threw it out instead of sending it in for a replacement. So beware.

I have draged this knife through the deserts of New Mexico, the mountains of colorado, the appalaition trail, and through the swamps of jersey, this is a tough, light reliable knife. the only thing I have bad to say is that it does dull quickly, and you probably couldn't fight off wolverines with it.

Comments about Gerber EVO Titanium-Coated Serrated Knife:
This knife is extremely light, sleek, and opens with one hand with a finger flick. It is not an assisted opening device, which is a good thing. The liner lock allows for one handed closing as well. I am really impressed with this strong and simple knife. So much so, it is my primary camping blade now!

Comments about Gerber EVO Titanium-Coated Serrated Knife:
A previous reviewer said he had difficulty opening it with the thumb stud. This knife is designed to be opened by using your index finger on the switch on the opposite side of the thumb studs. I also want to clarify that this is not at 440c blade. It is a 440a blade, which is softer and not as high quality as 440c.
My knife was a bit stiff to open at first, but then loosened up. After flicking the knife open for a couple of minutes the action loosened and the blade opened and locked readily. However, in the open position the thumbstuds rest on the handle to hold the blade in place. The finish on my knife was poor and the thumbstuds rested on the aluminum handle rather than the interior steel liner. The aluminum quickly wore and the blade now has unrepairable vertical play. I returned the knife and looked at the handle finish on other Evo's at REI. Most of them didn't have the handle and the liner well aligned. Over time, you will most likely end up with vertical play on this knife due to its design and poor build quality.
You don't have to sacrifice quality for affordability. For a cheap every day carry knife I recommend the Benchmade Mini-Pika. It has a 2.9 inch 440C blade, weighs 1.8 ounces, and has a much better quality finish for half the price of this knife on-line. Of course, there's other options too, and it all depends on what you're looking for.

Comments about Gerber EVO Titanium-Coated Serrated Knife:
This is a serious blade for a little knife. Great blade.
Handle feels safe when you're cutting.
Handle looks like it would be flimsy, but it is not; it's really stiff.
It is compact, really slim, so it fits into pocket or backpack just fine.
It's a very good, classic (single purpose) knife.

Comments about Gerber EVO Titanium-Coated Serrated Knife:
I have the fine edge version of this knife and I NEVER, EVER, under any circumstance, leave the house without this in my pocket. I always carry this knife with me. Perfect size for almost any job, be it work or play. Fits my hand wonderfully. The finger flip on the back end opens it up quickly and easily. The lock has never come close to failing on me. Super easy one handed operation. I have had Kershaws, Bucks, Schrades, Cold Steels, and Spydercos, but this is the only knife I carry with me anymore.
