Now--Egg Beater technology for riders who prefer pedals with a small platform as a target area for easier clipping in.

  • These pedals' small platform opens up options for riders who prefer to unclip on technical sections or dismount often like cyclo-cross racers
  • Egg Beater technology means these are a snap to engage, with four-sided entry for easy engagement
  • Low-stack height of 15.2mm gives increased ground clearance
  • Threaded external port allows easy lubrication without disassembling
  • Steel body components and chromoly spindles with cartridge bearings ensure years of trouble-free use, even in the most demanding conditions
  • Unique design and few moving parts ensure reliable entry and release even when gunked up with mud
  • These pedals should only be used with the Crank Brothers Cleats (included), which will fit almost any SPD-compatible shoes

Comments about Crank Brothers Candy C Pedals:

These are the "egg beater" pedals with a nice platform design. Entry is very easy and takes very little time to get used too. With the very open design do not see a chance of getting clogged with mud and can enter the pedals from both sides.

Comments about Crank Brothers Candy C Pedals:

I started commuting to work this year 8 miles each way. This is my first pair of clipless pedals and this is what I've noticed:

--They've shaved five minutes off my commute, going from 35 minutes to 30 minutes just like that. From one day to the next. I've found that I'm riding most of the time two gears over what I used to in the same portion of the itinerary. Some places three, some places one, some places none... But there's certainly an obvious difference in power output.

--They're extremely easy to learn to use. I used to be worried about clipping and unclipping, but I've found that using them became quite intuitive after a couple of days (I purchased them with the Shimanot MT31 shoes). Make sure to read instructions regarding what clip to put on either the right or left shoe for your preferred clipping/unclipping configuration.

--I've found that even when I don't get to clip right away pulling off a stop, I can still pedal fine to get the bike going probably thanks to its platform.

--My leg muscles seem to be making effort differently, but it might be that I'm still working on the correct adjustment of the seat for the knee-pedal spindle angle.

I thoroughly recommend it, at least for learners (not sure if seasoned veterans would have other preferences).

Comments about Crank Brothers Candy C Pedals:

The chunky plastic composite platform hinders entry at times and is not particularly durable. After clipping the pedal on a curb, the pedal looked as if it had been gnawed on my a rotweiller. So much for aestetics. I would recommend Traditional egg beaters as opposed to the Candy version

Comments about Crank Brothers Candy C Pedals:

These were my first pair of clipless pedals, but I refuse to give up on the concept.

First off, they cannot be adjusted, so if you have a hard time clipping in and out, get used to it. I found I had to nearly spin my foot 180 degrees to get it to unclip - not easy when you've peaked a hill and have run out of gas. I wrecked every single time I rode trail, and even while lying there prone, attached to my bike, I couldn't get out of the darn things.

Secondly, they're affordable, and they are good quality pedals, but all of that is irrelevant if you can't use them without crashing. I'm sending these back in favor of something adjustable.

Comments about Crank Brothers Candy C Pedals:

These pedals suited me fine for awhile until I started to notice some problems. The beater part would strike a rock or log and unclip is a main one.

Another issue is durability. I had a minor crash and it resulted in the bending of the "beater" part on one pedal as well as the heel of a shoe snapping off.

I have since switched to Time ATAC XS pedals and I am much happier.

Comments about Crank Brothers Candy C Pedals:

I've got three bikes: a hardtail, a Giant VT and a road bike. I've got Crank bros pedals on all of them. These give you a little more platform than the eggbeaters, but clean mud almost as well. These take a beating and keep on pedaling. After 2 seasons, one pedal got a bit sticky, from dirt and water getting in, so I ordered a rebuilt kit from Crank Bros [$]. Took maybe an hour to replace bearings, regrease etc and they spin as good as new.

Comments about Crank Brothers Candy C Pedals:

I love the functional design, but I can't tolerate the construction. My first pair of pedals (Shimano 535s) lasted ten years of serious abuse on and off-road. When I earned a little money and found an excuse I decided to try the crank brother design. Since then I've gone through 2 pairs of candy c pedals in less than two years. I've now upgraded to the SLs in hope that the spindles last longer because the function of these pedals is incredible. They are superior to my old shimanos in every function, (better hold when hammering, excellent mud clearance, instant entry) but far inferior in durability. The spindles wore away and I lost all of the bearings (loose ball). The cheaper version is not designed to be serviceable. Be warned that dust will get in and ruin the bearings while the spindle gets ground down.I decided to fork out for the SLs because they have sealed bearings, harder spindles, and are designed to be serviceable. So far, so good.

Comments about Crank Brothers Candy C Pedals:

After trying to race cross on SPDs and spending whole races unable to clip in once I'd hit mud, these are fantastic. They shed the mud and let you clip in. The platform is just enough for the dismount/remount times you aren't clipped in. They are pretty stiff at first, but once broken in are fabulous. The shims that come with them are also key when mounting on MTB shoes. I have raced in 6 inches of mud with these and never missed a clip in.

Comments about Crank Brothers Candy C Pedals:

I really like these pedals and the cleats. I do alot of organized rides (where you walk around pavement in your shoes) and have worn out/slipped on many cleats in the past: I think the plastic platforms surrounding the cleats are FANTASTIC...it gives you grip and protects the cleats (and tiled/bamboo floors). But that being said, they wear out pretty fast and you can't buy just the plastic replacements...you have to buy the whole cleat package ($$) and no bike stores or REI sell that [...]

Comments about Crank Brothers Candy C Pedals:

Bought these to replace some very old SPD pedals on my cross bike.

SPDs caked with mud and make it impossible to clip in quickly. These work great.

Finding that getting into them is fine - having a platform is good for cyclocross in the event you miss the clip-in when remounting the bike. But getting out takes a little getting used to. Left foot tends to want to stay in the pedal and makes dismounting a little tricky.

I hope that they do "break in" as the instruction sheet suggests.
