Comments about Necky Manitou II 15 Tandem Kayak with Rudder:
I live near Lake Tahoe, so I am usually on a big, choppy lake that often has lots of wind. The bow does an awesome job of cutting through the chop as advertised. The oversized back hatch is easy to jump into, and the boat is easy to maneuver if you get it with the rudder.I was hoping to use the child seat feature with my 5-year-old, however, she is miserable in that little rumble seat, which is nothing more that an uncomfortable plastic block that doesn't lock into anything, slips around and doesn't really fit well anywhere. Because of the way she is positioned, she is constantly getting splashed, and if your kid isn't having a good time, your trip is going to get shortened or unenjoyable very quickly.I would have preferred normal tandem openings, where my legs are covered and don't get sunburn, and possibly more dry storage for camping trips. Also, I have a Toyota Sienna van that I use to transport this boat, which is massive in size and weight. I almost killed myself the first time I tried to load it onto the roof using the Thule J-style rack. Unless you are about 6'4" and 240 lbs with a step stool, I strongly suggest getting the Thule Hullivator hydraulic lift system. It allows you to load the kayak in the rack at about waist height. Then the hydraulic lift system helps you lift the 80+ pound boat onto the roof.I believe they are sold through REI. [$], so be prepared for that hit. If you don't get one, you are really risking either injury or screwing up your vehicle's paint job in a big way. Also, for people new to paddling like me, be prepared to spend a lot of money on other extras like good floatation devices, good paddles, other important safety stuff (especially if you have small kids), and a storage rack to keep this on at home so that the plastic hull doesn't lay on the ground. The plastic is really sensitive to heat and can easily warp.
Service and delivery comments:
I got this sent to my local REI store.
Don't expect these guys to have the time or will to help you carry your boat to your car, let alone help you load it. Have your rack all installed and ready to go, when you go to pick it up.

Comments about Necky Manitou II 15 Tandem Kayak with Rudder:
This was my first Kayak and I was a little worried about getting it in the water and paddling with my children aboard. I took it out for about fifteen minutes and felt extremely comfortable. I returned to the shorline and picked up two of my three children and went back out with fishing gear. We had an awesome time. This is an extremely roomy kayak and is good solo or with a partner. I have none to compare it to becase it is the only one I have ever been in but man I am impressed. I did do my homework before I bought it and it did pay off.

Comments about Necky Manitou II 15 Tandem Kayak with Rudder:
Great versatile kayak. I can paddle with my 100 pound Golden Retriever, or I can paddle alone. When I want to go with a human companion I've got the space! When I have no companion, I am not held back! With rudder I can manage this kayak alone even paddling into a strong wind on open water. This is a much better approach to managing a canine companion than a sit on top kayak! The dog is contained in a cockpit and remains calmer. It is heavy and takes some planning to load it on the car alone. A scrap of rubber mat facilitates pushing the boat up from the rear without scratching the roof of the car.

Comments about Necky Manitou II 15 Tandem Kayak with Rudder:
This is a solid, stable and versitile kayak. It has the best leg room I have seen in the 14-15' length. I have had the kayak out in Lake Michigan and Lake Superior with my wife and it performed well. It comes with a removable child jump seat. This seat allows a toddler to share the aft cockpit when configured for tandem seating. The kayak can be paddled solo with the rear cockpit seat slid forward. I would recommend a long paddle 230cm or longer for solo paddling as you are sitting at the widest beam of the boat. If solo paddling will be a big part of your plan, keep in mind that at 15ft in length and 75 pounds this kayak is a bit unwieldy to load and unload from your car by yourself.

Comments about Necky Manitou II 15 Tandem Kayak with Rudder:
My husband and I purchased this kayak with help from Dan at REI Madison West (Thanks!). The sage advice was, "So long as you both get along, then a tandem kayak will work." Luckily, we both get along. The kayak fit atop our old Chevy Malibu and atop our current Ford Escape. It's on the heavy side, and we've purchased the rollers for the roof rack to help with loading and unloading. It's very stable and we've found quite manueverable, from slow backwaters of the Wisconsin River that were choked with deadfall to Devils Lake's open water. Lots of storage capability and fairly smooth entry and exit into the cockpits. It's comfortable, but, I wish I could change the front cockpits backrest just a little more. I also concur with another reviewer that longer paddles are helpful.
