Comments about OnGuard Doberman Combo Cable Bike Lock - 15mm:
While I stood around the corner, somebody busted this lock open and ran off with my bike without me so much as hearing a sound.

Comments about OnGuard Doberman Combo Cable Bike Lock - 15mm:
I got this lock to use on my cruiser when I run into the grocery store, etc. (low-crime area). I used it a handful of times (maybe 10) and it worked fine. One day, everything fell apart simultaneously and spontaneously. The frame mount, mounting piece on the cable, and the lock housing itself all broke and fell apart. This does not inspire confidence. I should have known better and bought the gold standard--Kryptonite. I will never buy another OnGuard lock...

Comments about OnGuard Doberman Combo Cable Bike Lock - 15mm:
I attend the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh. I bought an Novara Fusion to commute to school and to cut down on driving my car. Pitt has a problem with bike theft and I thought this lock would be OK because it has a 15mm cable....I WAS WRONG. My bike got stolen between 2PM and 3PM on a busy city street.
Comments about OnGuard Doberman Combo Cable Bike Lock - 15mm:
I purchased this lock since it seemed extra durable and did not require a key. When setting the lock combination, I chose a four digit number that I use all of the time. One day when riding my cruiser to the grocery store, I was able to lock up my bike, but after shopping my combination no longer worked. The lock broke, and my bike was stuck at the grocery store until I called over a locksmith. Since the lock is so sturdy, it could not get cut open and cost me a lot of money to get my bike free.

Comments about OnGuard Doberman Combo Cable Bike Lock - 15mm:
I had my bike locked up in front of the REI Store on the Santa Monica Promenade. The front of the store is well lit. I used this coil to lock my bike right in front of the store. I was inside for about 30 minutes and when I came out my bike was gone. It was brand new and it took me months to save up for it. This lock is a piece of junk.
When I told the manager that it was stolen in front of the store he said it happens all the time. IF IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME THEN WHY SELL THIS LOCK! Also, why not warn people not to lock their bikes in front of the store. Do not buy this lock unless you feel like handing a thief your bike.

I can't believe REI sells this lock and I wish we had checked the reviews before buying it. One month after buying it, my son had his 3-month-old bike stolen from in front of the public library in the middle of the day. The security guard in the library said there had been a rash of stolen bikes, all with coil locks.

Not really offering any new info here (above reviews say it all), but don't buy this lock. This thing offers no protection. Just had my bike stolen while it was locked up and the guy snipped through it like it was a wet noodle.

Comments about OnGuard Doberman Combo Cable Bike Lock - 15mm:
Several other reviewers had bikes stolen despite using this lock. Yes, cable locks pretty well suck and really only deter someone from walking off with your bike. A thief with decent tools can cut this thing in seconds.
I use two bike locks -- yes its a pain, but I have never lost a bike yet. Get a good quality u-bolt lock (mine weighs nearly 8 pounds!) and use that as your primary lock, securing the bike frame to a fixed metal object. Then use this cable lock to secure the wheels to the frame. It takes a little longer (and having that 8 pound lump of metal in my backpack sucks), but would-be thieves will skip your ride and move on to someone using a less secure system.
