Comments about Alps Mountaineering Orion 4 Tent - Special Buy:
Love this tent! I bought it about a year ago and have used it several times. I love that you can adjust the ventilation with the zip up window flaps-most tents leave that screen open all times with the fly providing all the protection from the weather. When it gets cold, you can just zip those up and have less cold air coming in. My friends own another very expensive name brand tent and they don't have this option. We camped in Alaska with theirs in the summer and were still cold since we couldn't block the wind coming in the windows. Makes it good for cooler weather camping and cold nights. Light for the amount of people that it holds comfortably (3 adults plus gear)-would suggest for short hikes. If you have several people in your group, split up the tent supplies (one person with the tent, one with poles...) Another plus is that it is very easy to set up by yourself.

Comments about Alps Mountaineering Orion 4 Tent - Special Buy:
I have a two man tent from A M that I use with my son backpacking. I bought this one to bring my wife outdoor (more often). We used it twice this past summer; in a campground in NC and second time at the beach in SC. Both times it poured rain, most people left the campground because their tents were flooded, but for us it was amazingly dry and our tent was sitting in six inches of rain. I highly recommend this tent for easy camping, great price but not for back packing, the poles are heavy

I had been looking for a tent large enough to sleep four, but light enough for backpacking. This fit the bill. Keep in mind that there is trade offs going to a 4 person tent, but this one is lighter than most. I have used it at the lake, taken it on medium lenght (6+ miles) backpacking trips, and even used it when traveling accross country in my car. It is easy to set up and holds up to strong winds and cold nothern weather. I don't recommend this with 4 people in hot high humidity - ventilation could be better.

Have used this tent for 2 seasons and love it . Over memorial day weekend my brother and a friend and I rode the Erie canal .It reained heavily the first 2 nights and the only time we got wet was when we left the tent . It is light and small emough when packed up to carry on the bike and at the end of a long day sets up in minutes .The tent looks and performs as it did the first time it was used .
Care mut be taken when pulling the pin out of the poles because sometimes the plastic grommets pull out as well .The trick is to make sure you grip the pole with your thumb and first finger while pulling the pin with your other hand , that keeps the grommet in place an avoids a search of the camp site to find it.

We've had this tent for several years now and love it. It's a bit heavy for backpacking, but roomy enough for our family of four to enjoy time in close quarters. We're considering the 2 person version so the boys can bring friends along. Great value, no complaints, very sturdy.

This tent is great for size/weight ratio- it's got plenty of room, can fit two, gear and a dog without feeling crazed. Good for car camping or shorter hike in camping trips.

Comments about Alps Mountaineering Orion 4 Tent - Special Buy:
I needed a bigger tent than the 2/3 person I bought for backpacking in college. I looked for 3/4 person tent with a good price, weight and easy set up. I found it all in this tent. I purchased the footprint for this model sold by Alps and it was worth the extra [$]. My two kids and I were comfortable with all of our gear.

Comments about Alps Mountaineering Orion 4 Tent - Special Buy:
I just bought this tent and set it up in my family room. It is easy/fast to set up and the overall construction is good, not great. It does have some nice features and the price is good.
However the measurements are not accurate. I size a tent by it's dimensions not by how many people it says will fit. The tent seemed smaller than it's published dimensions so I measured it. It is fully 6-8 inches smaller than the published dimensions. I'm 6 feet tall and use a long sleeping bag. It barely fits the long way. I haven't decided if I'm going to keep the tent but if you are more than 6 feet tall you will be disappointed.

Although this tent is probably worth the money (pretty cheap!), I wouldn't suggest backpacking in the mountains with this one (car camping only). Way too heavy and I felt the tent had very loose construction.

This is a great tent. It's smartly-designed with two ventilated doors, two side vents, and a fly vestibule with two windows. The tent is hung to the poles with sturdy clip/hooks, so it's a breeze to put up.The doors have half-heigh mesh vents that can be covered with the zippered flaps. The two plastic windows on the fly are at the same location as the side vents, giving you a nice view of the outside while allowing some lights in a rainy day. These windows also help you figure out which way the fly goes. An extra gear-hammock made from mesh material can be hung on the ceiling. The fly also comes with closeable vents, and with ropes, it can function as vestibules on both sides. You can zip the fly for those colder nights. There are two inside pockets. The floor seam is raised high enough above the ground. You would need to buy separate stakes and some ropes for the fly, but for [$] (and $20 footprint), it's an unbeatable deal and much better designed and built (and ligter) than the more expensive tents out there.
