Comments about Kelty Trekker Pack:
This is a great pack, especially for longer hauls. On the popular level the external frame pack is to the internal frame pack as the road bike is to the mountain bike: a perfectly good item long-maligned by fad-followers...and perhaps overdue for the comeback the road bike is making among the masses.
The biggest, most expensive internal frame pack can't beat the cheapest Kelty (or Coleman for that matter) external frame pack for carrying all your stuff plus two weeks worth of food, while nicely distributing the load and keeping your back nice and cool to boot. I use mine on shorter hikes too and it's great.

Comments about Kelty Trekker Pack:
Only putting 4 stars because I'm sure there's probably some $300 pack out there that I'd like more...
I used this pack on a month-long bus/hike across Spain. This wasn't with a tour group, so I had to be pretty self-sufficient. This pack held everything I needed for a month of wandering. Plenty of room for clothes/gear. Zippers are good and strong, a bit awkward to close on the side pockets under the overhanging fabric which is probably more of a water-proofing stength than anything. Wouldn't call it much of a weakness considering the alternative. The water bottle pocket on mine is integrated into one of the upper side pockets which makes retrieving it while walking a bit difficult. The pack does take a water bladder, though, so that isn't too much of an issue. Shoulder straps are impressively padded and comfortable. After 4 years of hard use around Europe and plenty of camping in the U.S., still not a rip or tear on it anywhere.

Comments about Kelty Trekker Pack:
I compare this pack to a Caddy for a couple reasons... one, the old men seem to be seen with the externals more frequently in my experience (Cuz they know better). Caddies are big, but comfy. Roomy, strong, and they keep you safe when it gets rough. This pack will last and last. And you can fit a body in the trunk :P
Seriously, if you overlook the hype, externals are better for you. People say "internals allw you to flex and move your back better..." I don't really want my back twisting with 40 pounds on it. You can take the bags off and use it as a pack board (I've bungee'd my inflatable kayak to mine and hiked a few miles back up river)
And it's a Kelty. If you don't know what that means, you probably never will.

Comments about Kelty Trekker Pack:
My son is a boy scout and this pack works great for him whether it's just a day hike or several days camping. He prefers the external frame because it is comfortable and stays put on long hikes. It gets the job done!

Comments about Kelty Trekker Pack:
This may not be what is popular now, but this pack will help you keep cool during hot weather. The pockets help you keep your load where you don't have to dig through your complete load. It is a great pack that I hope and think will last me a long time.

Comments about Kelty Trekker Pack:
I bought this new a few weeks ago and used it on a 24 mile hike in FL, where the temps were in the mid-80's in the daytime and I had about a 35 lb load total. It never felt uncomfortable, and my back stayed nice and dry due to the great air circulation you can get with this e-frame. I can understand that you might not want to wear this to leap around like a mountain goat, but there isn't any danger of me doing that down here so its a non-issue for me. I really love the comfort and near-retro style of this pack. Besides, the price is great for what you get.

Comments about Kelty Trekker Pack:
Pack has held up for years. Can handle loads for extended trips, but also weekends and long weekends. Great on accessability and organization. External frame, so a little on the large side, and not great for tight spaces, but I have squezzed through on more than one occasion when I though I couldn't. A BOMBPROOF pack. Comftorable once adjusted correctly, with torso length and load lifters.

Great weekend backpack holds enough gear for a cofortable three day hike. The external frame keeps me cool when hiking during the hot hummid PA./NJ. summers. For the price I don't think you could fined a better pack.
