Comments about Lowa Kody GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I've had a pair of these for about a year and worn them backpacking for something over 300 miles - not exactly the AT but solid recreational hiking. Dust them off a bit and they still look like new.
This is my first pair of hiking boots. Initially I was very anxious about buying any boots because of horror stories about break in periods, blisters, etc. But when I tried these on they felt like a big pair of comfy bedroom slippers. And they've stayed that way with no breakin period, no blisters even on one five day 110 mile hike with a 40 pound pack.
I've had no issues with the plastic hooks and the waterpoofing has held up well - although I have sprayed them a couple of times with a water repellant spray. They did squeak some the first couple of times out, I suspect as the nylon threads in the tongue rubbed against each other. But after they got a bit dusty that went away and has not been as issue since.
All in all I couldn't be happier with these. They probably would not be the best choice for a long distance through hiker (too light), but for the recreational hiker/backpacker like me, they're just about perfect.

Comments about Lowa Kody GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
How do I use?...Wow-
Day hikes in Hawaii,Up Mauna Loa, Portaging/paddling in the BWCA, In snow to/from skiing boots...
The number one thing for me is the large toe box for my wide feet, most comfortable boots I've ever owned. Number two is the great ankle support for the light weight. Easy to accommodate thinner socks or fat thermals, even a pad for the arches- just lace them up snug and away you go. 'Way more breathable than hard leather but still very stable. Warm and dry in snow. On a canoe trip I put them in Tingleys to slosh around in the mud until I got in too deep and soaked everything. Discovered it is much easier just to let them get wet and let them dry in camp that night. (Nothing's perfect) Heavy loads no problem for fairly short distances, amazingly sticky soles for rock scrambling. After a long and abused life, the soles finally separated and no amount of shoe goo would save them.
I'm back at this site to order another pair.

Comments about Lowa Kody GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I bought these boots knowing that I would use an orthotic insert (see other reviews) and I was very pleased with how well my personal inserts integrated with the fit and feel of the boot. Then I put them to the test and used them for hiking in Maine this summer. They met all the criteria in the "pro" column and I found no "cons". My feet always felt great at the end of the day. Best of all, the goretex lining performed beautifully in rain and in swampy areas. They cleaned up well after getting home also.

Comments about Lowa Kody GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I bought these boots in anticipation of hiking up to Camp Muir on Mt. Rainier, which is a 4600 ft ascent on rocks, dirt trail, and a lot of snow. I was a little skeptical whether they'd be worth the [$], but they totally were. These are the best footware I've ever owned. They performed very well on the mountain. Good traction on all surfaces, no rubbing on my feet, nice dry feet, and they are just good looking boots.I've had no problems yet with the plastic hooks. I'll definitely be looking at Lowa's other footwear in the future.

Comments about Lowa Kody GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
First pair of 'good' hiking boots that I've bought. First time out was about a 10-mile hike through various terrain. A lot of up-hill. They did really well. It had just rained a bit so the trails were a bit muddy and wet. The boots did well in regards to maintaining traction and repelling water. Good ankle support.
Only foreseeable downside might be the fact that the lace clips are plastic... other people have pointed this out already. Though I have had no problems with this I can see it as a potential problem.
Other than that, these boots have been a great investment so far.

Comments about Lowa Kody GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
This is an initial comment, after from spending many hours inside with a new pair. What struck me straight off is 1) for a medium, the fit is a bit on the narrow side at the widest part of the foot; and 2) the upper lacing system is very poorly designed. By the latter, I am not just speaking to the two rows of seemingly fragile plastic hooks that others have mentioned. Much more important is that the first connection moving up from the middle is not the normal hook for anchoring the ankle firmly, but another string-through connector that is difficult, if not impossible, to tighten adequately (unless one likes loose ankle fit). Hard to believe that an experienced and dedicated footware company couldn't get this right.

Comments about Lowa Kody GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
Enjoyed these boots for their comfort, stability, and overall durability. However, the upper lace hooks are plastic and not anchored very well. They started to pull out of the boot almost immediately. Returned for the Lowa Renegade. If not for that one thing, I'm sure I would have had them for many more treks.

Comments about Lowa Kody GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
These are my trail boots. They are great with my 25lb warmer-weather pack. Easy to lace and stay as tight as I've tied them. My feet don't overheat and they offer plenty of stability. They were comfortable from the first day. Not what I want on boulder strewn cross country hikes with a winter pack weight.

Comments about Lowa Kody GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
Used these boots for a 3 Peak Challenge. Breaking the boots in revealed the need for arch support after 2 hours of flat walking. As an over-pronator, added inserts and made it thru 30 plus miles of continuous mountain hiking. Great boot, breathed well and dried fast between hikes.
