      We purchased both this item and a comparable mid-weight wicking shirt made by SmartWool that is also sold by REI. The SmartWool shirt seemed a little bit warmer, especially when exercising. However, the REI shirt (which is about the thickness of most T-shirts) was more than sufficient. The SmartWool shirt actually gets very warm when you start exercising whereas this one is just about right. If you are not moving around a lot and want to stay a bit warmer, the SmartWool might be the way to go (it's also a bit thicker and more sweater-like).

        I purchased a set of these REI long underwear for our son for use mainly as an extra layer for scout campouts. However, they have come in very handy for other cold weather activities as well. And my son loves them so much that he opts to sleep in them whenever he can. Obviously, one pair is NOT enough and I'm now back to order more for him and pairs for our daughter as well.

            These long underwear tops are great for every day wear as well as sports and the outdoors. I'm not a kid, but I wear XL kids stuff - but they would be perfect for kids to wear out and about as well as a base layer for cool weather. Shirts are incredibly comfortable, wash really nicely and don't wrinkle.
