Comments about Mountain House Hearty Beef Stew Pro Pack - Single Serving:
Beef stew is a standard item for my trips. The pro pak packaging is great because the meal packs smaller in the food bag. Meal size is sufficient for one hungry hiker.
I agree with the other review that recommended letting it set a couple extra minutes ... it's worth the weight to avoid crunchy beef!

Comments about Mountain House Hearty Beef Stew Pro Pack - Single Serving:
I was surprised by how good this was. There was a LOT of beef, which took longer to cook than the directions said (a couple of extra minutes). The flavor was good, *everything* about this meal is good.
Also, it has a lot of protein which is important when you're out there in back country.
I just bought another couple of these for my backpacking trip this weekend!

Comments about Mountain House Hearty Beef Stew Pro Pack - Single Serving:
Decent stuff - not bad but not great. My package was loaded with pees and I honestly mean loaded. Beef and potatoes were very tasty but I'm not a pees fan. If it had less of them, I would rate this 4 stars and if it came without them entirely, I would rate this 5 stars. So aside from the pees, I would highly recommend the product. And for the record, I'm not exaggerating about the amount of pees.

Comments about Mountain House Hearty Beef Stew Pro Pack - Single Serving:
The relatively newer on the scene Pro Pack makes all the difference in the world to making an already great backpacking item a right on the money winner!
The traditional Mountain House is generally laid out for two people. Even on long hiking days, I've never quite managed to finish one by myself. The Pro Pack is a more right sized portion and because the packaging eliminates any and all trapped air inside it stuffs right nicely into a backpack without wasting any space.
The Beef Stew flavor is alright -- Progresso by comparison would be tastier. The Beef chunks kind of remind me of Peperoni chunks on some of the cheap pizzas. But maybe that might not be the important thing here. It cuts down the weight, is not bulky, and you eat it right out of the pouch for convenience with not mess to worry about. It's a hot meal at the end of a great day and thank god it tastes good enough that if you had to eat it two days in a row you really wouldn't mind.

This is a standard choice (along with the beef stroaganoff) for myself and my 12yo daughter.
You can added instant rice or a packet of freeze dried corn to it for those nights you are really hungry.

Comments about Mountain House Hearty Beef Stew Pro Pack - Single Serving:
We ate nearly every Mountain House entree on a recent backpacking trip, and this was our least favorite. We burned out very quickly and had to force ourselves to continue eating. The texture and flavor left something to be desired. Adding extra water and letting the meals "sit" longer than the instructions called for was helpful. The meal started out very hot (it helped to have a bandana to use to insulate our hands from the hot package), and stayed warm almost to the end -- we were eating in temperatures in the mid 50's. We added a bit of olive oil to improve the flavor and add calories.
