Comments about Old Town Otter XT Kayak:
For those of you searching the internet for your first kayak, look no further (and ps... I just like adventure, i'm not into sales). The best feature for those of you in the beginner or advanced beginner/intermediate (meaning I don't do waterfalls yet), this kayak is very stable and seriously fun. It can spin around, hang out in the waves (I've had it in 3 foot waves), explore the lake... and even shallow creeks, etc. NOW for those of you concerned that you will outgrow this kayak... nope. I have two others but this is my favorite kayak to hoist on my rooftop rack and go everywhere with... mostly because it's kind of a "do-all". Because it is inexpensive, compared to the next step up, I don't have to worry so much about theft. I can pack a day's gear and just take off. Some great features are: the seat (which is not plastic molded); this XT model has foot pegs (you're going to want those); lots of room for your legs (can even sit cross-legged) AND waterproof bags and gear; it holds a lot of weight comparably speaking; I can lift it without assistance.... it's just a great kayak! One suggestion is to have a PROFESSIONAL outfitter put in another set of bungys to hold things on the deck. PS: If you are looking for a kayak ONLY to tour LONG distance then invest some money and go longer.

Comments about Old Town Otter XT Kayak:
We (husband and wife) enjoyed our Old Town Otters for several years before "upgrading" to longer recreational kayaks. The Otters were a good choice because they cost a lot less than many other models, are quite stable, and very durable. They are wide boats, not at all "tippy"...but at times you'll wish you could go on a straighter course, and paddling against a current can be more of a battle than it would be in a narrower model. But still a lot of fun, and a great entry-level 'yak!

Comments about Old Town Otter XT Kayak:
WE BOUGHT OTTER THINKING IT WOULD BE A GOOD ENTRY LEVEL KAYAK FOR MY WIFE. WHAT A SURPRISE, THE OTTER AND MY WIFE HAVE KEPT RIGHT UP WITH ME IN MY LONGER OLD TOWN LOON. SHE LOVES THE COLORS AND SAYS THE SIZE BETTER MATCHES HER. PLENTY OF ROOM FOR A SMALLER PERSON.SHE SAYS THE SEAT FEELS GREAT,IS VERY COMFORTABLE EVEN ON LONG TRIPS AND LOVES THE BUILT IN CUP HOLDER. WHEN I SUGGESTED WE UP GRADE TO A LARGER KAYAK, HER REPLY WAS NO WAY. GREAT SMALLER TOURING/RECREATIONAL KAYAK THAT LOOKS GREAT ON THE WATER AND ON THE TRAILER. PACKED WITH LEGENDARY OLD TOWN QUAILTY.

Comments about Old Town Otter XT Kayak:
We own 2 Old Town Otters and love them! They are the most stable kayak that we could find. In adding a new kayak for our lake front property in Alaska last year i purchased Preception Prodigy, it is a great kayak for the price, but did not have the stablilty that the Otter has. The Preceiption Prodigy felt like it would tip easily, REI was great they let us exchange it for the Old Town Otter which is the most stable Kayak i have ever used. The savings $70.00 for the lower priced Preception Prodigy was not worth it, if you are looking for stability. We have never had a Old Town Otter tip over! Quality is exceptional!

Comments about Old Town Otter XT Kayak:
I would not recommend this kayak. It is very hard to in and out of. The hole is small and has no leg room. The seat is hard plastic and does not conform to your back. To use it I had to sit on a boat cushion. There are not any pegs for your feet, so you keep sliding forward. It would be great for little kids.

Comments about Old Town Otter XT Kayak:
This Kayak is wonderful, I take my children with me (one at a time) and we fit comfortably, they are tiny children 6 and 8 though but still have some space to spare. It is not as easy to keep straight as a longer kayak, yet it is great for flat water, lakes and recreational touring. My husband lifts it easily and even the kids help to get it out of the water and move it to a safe place. Great for kids, beginners and recreational paddlers... LOVE IT !
