Comments about Cat Eye Enduro 8 Bike Computer:

I had this computer for a little over a year. The locking tab on the mounting bracket had broken off some time ago. Although the computer still worked, it would no longer lock onto the bracket, which resulted in me losing it while on the trail (if someone happens to find it out there, it's mine!).

Like other reviewers have stated, the instructions that come with this computer are unclear.

It should also be noted that the computer cannot be calibrated for some tire sizes, which renders it inaccurate if you have one of these tire sizes, as I did (26 x 2.24). Usually the manual gives you a listing of some common sizes, and if yours is not listed, you can always measure the wheel circumference yourself and enter that value (this is the most accurate way to calibrate it anyway). However, it would not let me enter my correct wheel circumference. I used the next smaller value, and lived with the resulting inaccuracy. Riders of mountain bikes with 29" wheels should look into other computers, as this one has no calibration settings for them.

This computer also only displays the clock when it goes into sleep mode. There is no way to view the clock while the computer is active. It would be nice to be able to view the current time while out riding, but with this computer, 'no can do.'

For this computer's replacement, I will probably go with one from Sigma instead.

Comments about Cat Eye Enduro 8 Bike Computer:

I had a Cateye Enduro 2. The wire broke. After a failed attempt with Cateye's wireless computer, I thought I'd go back to the Enduro. There have been major changes to this product, and not good changes.

        1. The old product worked with the sensor at the bottom of the fork. The new one doesn't. (Why? I'm not sure. Is the sensor more sensitive?)

        2. To install, you have to use plastic ties (one-time chance to install properly). Apparently, there is no other choice available for cycle computers.

        3. If you accidentally hit the SET button, you will move the mode from autotimer to manual timer. Once you do this, there is no way to return to autotimer except to clear all the settings in the computer, at which time it returns to autotimer setting. This is ridiculous.

Basically, they thought they were doing a good thing by adding a new feature (the ability to have two different tire sizes on one computer). They clearly didn't think through the functionality. Because some of the changes you make are one-way: you cannot undo them. This is called BAD PRODUCT DESIGN.

        4. The "manual" (a multi-language pamphlet) is a joke. You need to read it to figure out all the nuances of the many button pushes. It's not designed to clearly present information, but to fit the most amount of information for their bad product in the smallest space.

It's really sad that Cateye took what was a decent product and ruined it by adding a not very useful feature.

Based on my experience with two new Cateye products, I really have to recommend staying away from this brand if you can.

Comments about Cat Eye Enduro 8 Bike Computer:

I use it every day to time my ride and to work out routes for novice riders. The mileage was within a tenth of a mile or less over about a 25 mile route. I like the "big button" ease of switching through my views and settings. The reset features are easy fir each new ride and get me going quickly. I have this unit for 3+ years and I'm on the same battery from the original purchase.

Durability has had some unfortunate tests only to survive with little more than some dirt and a minor scratch. It's been in a wreak with a car and popped off during a ride doing about 25 mph.

That leads to me the only con that I can really complain about. The placement of the release is just below the red reset/start stop button. If you are the slightest bit off when you use the red button and bump the quick release, off comes the unit. I nolonger do any resetting while I'm riding.

I recommend this to anyone that is looking for a budget computer that wants durability, easy to set and read and doesn't mind a wired unit. I'm getting one for my dad next.

Comments about Cat Eye Enduro 8 Bike Computer:

Received the Enduro 8 as a Christmas gift. Clerk told the buyer that the instructions were confusing, but the buyer assured the clerk I could handle it. While they were confusing, a little time reading thoroughly, and I've had zero problems so far.

I happened to ride passed a odomoter check range for what I believe was five miles. The enduro 8 was consistantly within .01 miles per mile. I think that's very accurate, especially at the price range.

I like the large current speed display with the up/down arrows to show where you are versus your average speed. With the mode set on "Dist 1" or "Dist 2" for the current segement of the ride, there is now reason to change the display while riding.

I understand if I wanted to switch between different bikes or between automatic and manual mode, this computer might have some problems. But, left on Auto, for just one bike, I think it's a great product.

I've put about 600 miles of recreational and a little commuting, and it hasn't missed a beat.

I've had this computer for 2.5 years and it has recorded around 6k miles. So far, no issues at all.
It's been through lots of rain, heat and abuse and has been perfectly reliable.
I gave it 4 stars because I would recommend shelling out an extra 10 bucks and getting a wireless version as the wiring is a little annoying.

I bought this because it seemed to be a cheap entry line product. I tried to install it the manual was very confusing and hard to understand. It was just pictures no actual words. As I was trying to install this piece of junk the handle bar mount broke rendering it a [$] dollar piece of trash. I would not recommend this to anyone. Spend a little more money and get a better one.

Comments about Cat Eye Enduro 8 Bike Computer:

Everything functions like it's supposed to. Hardware seems durable while keeping material to a minimum. The physical install was pretty painless.

The zip-ties and sensor collect dirt around them.
The included instructions are quite horrible. Cateye has improved them a lot, but you have to download the latest from their site (not so portable unless you lug a laptop around everywhere).
For anything beyond switching modes the interface is pretty clumsy and requires referencing the instructions.

Comments about Cat Eye Enduro 8 Bike Computer:

I bought this for my first road bike and my wife had one on her hybrid. It is easy to read and the buttons are a good size. It has the basic functions. The battery life was good; I never replaced a battery in the two years I had it.

The downside is that the Mode button on mine broke. It has a plunger that was missing the circuit board inside of the computer. I had to cut open the button to get it to make contact, and after that, the lens would fog up and the computer is no longer waterproof. It lasted two years though.

I would spend a few more bucks and get a better computer.

Comments about Cat Eye Enduro 8 Bike Computer:

I purchased the Cat Eye Enduro 8 a while back and in my opinion it was the perfect choice. It has followed me through 4 years of cycling and never missed a beat. I have also accidentally washed the Enduro 8 in the washing machine not once, but twice and it still performs like it did out of the box. In my opinion if a product can be washed twice and survive the muddy, rough, long mountain bike trails than it is good by me. As far as the handlebar mount it is not very stable, but if you ride rough singletrack like I do nothing will be so you can't fault it, plus it is only [$] you can't beat that for a reliable, durable, accurate bike computer.

I just bought this computer a few days ago and I'm very happy with it so far. It's easy to read, fairly easy to operate and setup. I do agree with other reviews on the mounting process, I don't like the zip ties and would have preferred a velcro system but the zip ties do work. I could have used some words and not just images from the mounting insructions but I was able to figure it out on my own. I'll use it every ride just to document all my stats and hope it will help me to improve my average speed and time in the process.
