Comments about Black Diamond Beta Bug Tent:

my wife & i tested several light weight tents (including the hennessey hammock) as possible options for our month long summer backpacking trip to denali. since we weren't sure that we'd always have 2 trees nearby at the right distance apart, we opted for a lightweight mosquito netting tents with the option of a rain tarp. we chose this tent along with the lightweight sil-nylon beta tarp. it packed away easily and protected us against several unexpected rains including the sheets of frost that formed on it in the mornings. some summer time. by the third night it got into freezing temps.

we got into a nice rhythm of waking up, laying the tarp out to dry so that by the time we finished breakfast we were set to go. the whole package fit into the size of a loaf of bread. total for both the tent & the tarp was 3 lbs 10 oz. not including weight of treking poles + titanium stakes.

i'm going to add loops to the peaks of the tent so that i can set it up without the treking poles. just clip it to a taut line above the tent. also, stake it with bungie cords so it keeps its shape all night. otherwise it tends to droop by morning. this also keeps the tarp from touching the netting, which causes moisture to accumulate.

even though we also have a freestanding northface tent, i tend to choose this one to use. not sure if it's because of the memories of our trip or the simplicity of the setup. probably a bit of both.
