Comments about Yakima LandShark Saddles - Set of 4:
These saddles are great for the price, and they're really bomber. A two week expedition down in Baja revealed their biggest upside, and their biggest downside.
Their biggest upside is that for 3000 miles of really bad roads, many of them unpaved and EXTREMELY rough (my stereo actually got shaken loose from the dashboard!), I didn't have a single problem with the sturdiness of these saddles.
Their biggest downside was that with all of the rough roads, the saddles roughened the surface of my brand new Wilderness Systems Tsunami polythylene yak. Certainly didn't destroy the boat, but definitely noticeable.
I suspect that under normal situations (paved, relatively smooth roads for relatively short time periods, as opposed to 3000 continuous miles of bad road) the scuffing problem is probably minimal. I did zip-tie some foam to the landsharks to try to minimize the problem in the future though.
I did get a tiny bit of hull warping at one set of saddles, but that's probably because it's not the ideal place for them, and I was really tightening my straps down due to the road conditions. All in all, a good product, though I think for my second set I'm going to go with the Makos, which seem to be padded better.

The Landsharks work well w/the rest of our Yakima system. The kayaks are held in nice & snug. We've driven in some very windy conditions with no problem.

Comments about Yakima LandShark Saddles - Set of 4:
Great, simple product for transporting kayaks on top of a car. Easy to install, though I would suggest keeping the LandSharks on loose enough that you can slide them left and right a bit after setting the kayak down on them the first time. You want the LandSharks to compress a bit with the weight of the boat and the pressure of the straps. They might scuff up a really shiny fiberglass or carbon boat a bit, but on a poly kayak it should not matter. Your boat is gonna get scratched up anyway. Highly recommended, affordable option.

Comments about Yakima LandShark Saddles - Set of 4:
One set of 4 landshark saddles is required per kayak. Very secure way of carrying kayaks.
I have driven with 2 kayaks >65mph without any problems (except for the addtl. noise)

Comments about Yakima LandShark Saddles - Set of 4:
I purchased the saddles in 2008 to replace another stacker. This product is great - durable, adjustable, and stable. My boat is easy to load and unload. I use rachet straps to secure my boat and have had no problems driving 70+ mph on the interstate with 20+ mph crosswind. As with any load, it needs to be checked after about 10 miles of travel to ensure it is secure. I have a different brand of (square) load bars but the saddles adjust to fit very well.
