          Bought a pack a while back and used them on a camp out down at crater lake I was not impressed opened the package and they smell great burning them no scent and they "ooze" out the view window got on line and was talking to the folks that make them and they say that they will do that if it gets to hot like 90+ degrees I told them that it hapened at night while I was using them when it was like 60-70 degrees in my tent.

          Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

            These candles do more than light. They are also good at keeping mosquitos away....but you need to burn a couple lanterns to cover a large area.

              I have had my brass UCO candle lantern for over 12 years and love it. It has been with me from the Channel Islands in CA to the Northern Sierra's to the Outerbanks of NC and to the BlueRidge mountains.
              The Citronellas burn a little faster and can be a little soft in peak summer but still cannot be beat. In summer we burn the citronella and run off the bugs in winter we burn the regular wax and it helps take the nip off of the air in the tent.
              Cannot go wrong with this one.

                  Comments about Uco Candle-Lantern Citronella Candles:

                  These candles work fine as a source of light. I did find them to be a bit more prone to melting than standard wax candles, but not by a lot, and not to the point that they weren't functional.

                  As far as their insect repellent effect, it's definitely not as strong as a mosquito coil or a more serious citronella candle, but it's effective enough for what I do with it.
                  I will often light my lantern in my tent at dusk, and leave it burning until I go to bed. This does several things: A) I can find my tent in the dark, and there's a nice glow to settle myself for the night by. B) It really does add a little warmth to the air in my tent. C) There's enough repellent effect to drive the mosquitoes away from the opening of my tent, so none of those little buggers sneak in with me as I enter, and yet, I don't smell any "chemically smell" in my tent. That being said, in a perfect world, I wish it were a *bit* stronger, but I guess that's the trade-off to keep it solid enough as a candle.
