Comments about Riverside Car Top Non-skid Kayak Carrier:
Well with only a compact sedan to carry around my new Kayak - and an old one at that - I did not want to invest in a fancy Thule or Yakima roof rack setup - wich seems like it would be approaching the cost of the kayak itself. So I'm pretty happy with the budget approach using this kit. I've made it through one season now and all the parts are hanging in there just fine - even the foam pads. The nylon webbing is durable as well. The foam pads actually are nice for storing the kayak in the garage as well.
It takes about 10 minutes to get everything strapped on and tied down. Stability is good - even with highway driving (although I definitely don't go as fast as normal).
All in all I think its a good deal and I'm pleased.

Comments about Riverside Car Top Non-skid Kayak Carrier:
I was concerned when purchasing this product because there is another one priced much higher that appears to be the exact same thing. I still don't know what the difference is, but do rest assured that this comes with EVERYTHING needed to haul a Kayak on top of a vehicle.
It took some tweaking and figuring out, but I think I have the system nailed down now! It takes about 10-15 minutes to load the Kayak. It can be done solo (as long as you're capable of lifting the Kayak over your head!!), but having a friend helps make the process safer and quicker.
I've used it on about 4 outings (8 times loading it up -- once to get there, once to get back), 3 on one car and once on another car. On the last outing I didn't pay close enough attention and one of the straps was touching the exhaust, causing the end to melt and the strap went limp. Still managed to get home just fine (about 15 miles ~35mph on windy/curvy road, another 15 on the freeway).
The system seems pretty fail safe as long as you set it up properly in the first place and keep an eye on things. The strap was easily fixed too, since all that was needed was a loop on the end.
I've used this on the freeway at speeds up to about 65mph and felt comfortable doing so once I had some experience in getting the kayak to be secure. I can't really recommend driving that fast for very long though.
Since I had a solution previously (stuffing the kayak into the trunk, through the rear-seat pass-through and between the front seats) I would only say this was marginally worth it, but the real benefit comes when you want to haul a kayak, cargo (ice chest, for example), AND friends - you would never make it work without a rooftop solution. It's also nice to know I could haul two kayaks (one in the car, one on top!) and still have room for a passenger (like the person using the other kayak!)
Lost 1 star because the foam feels like it WILL break down in a relatively short time (although new blocks can be purchased relatively cheap), and the strap buckles/cams seem to come loose slowly (long trips would require retightening) -- you do have warning though (the straps begin to vibrate and make lots of noise in the wind when they get loose enough, and then they stop and begin flapping around when they get too lose). Still, you'd have to be pretty careless to lose a kayak with this thing.
