Comments about Merrell Wilderness Hiking Boots - Men's:
I bought mine in 1992. They have been resoled twice. Cobblers love them because they are easy to resole. I have worn these on multiweek back packs from the desert to the Brooks Range of Alaska and everything in between. After all these years, they are still very waterproof. I use SnoSeal and I can stand in water right up to the top and they will not leak. It takes awhile to break them in and then they are very comfy. A classic!

Comments about Merrell Wilderness Hiking Boots - Men's:
So good looking I was afraid to wear them, so they rode in the seat next to me on the way to New Mexico from Seattle back in 95. Four years of Mountaineering the Sangre de Christo Mountains, from Taos to Santa Fe combined with multiple 18 hour day, on location film projects, experiencing flat-out melting temputures of desert heat to freezing alpine granite grag navigation, chasing two austrailian shepherds on a daily basis. The Merrell Wilderness's, Norwegian welt construction has no competition among the more modernized 'molded' boot construction.
I'll definately be purchasing a pair of these for both my wife and I before leaving for Bolivia this year! If it never breaks don't fix it! Fasionable and Rugged at the same time, though, it takes a but longer to break in than most, it's worth getting to know, as they're more dependable than boots that last less than ten years, with only two resoles, their still going strong. I just feel like breaking in another pair for posterity, as my wife says, my feet would be like knives in foam sandals with any other shoes.

Comments about Merrell Wilderness Hiking Boots - Men's:
I just completed a two-month long distance hike in the Swiss Alps using these boots, and although there are many great things about them, I can't recommend them.
First, the good stuff. The boots fit wonderfully, and the toe box is unusually roomy. I have hard to fit feet, and these boots fit like a glove straight out of the box with no break-in period, one of the top reasons I bought them. The grip of the Norwegian-welted Vibram sole is the best of any boot I've owned, made from a rubber that is considerably stickier than that of any cemented Vibram soles I've had.
Alas, these boots have a couple of major drawbacks that unfortunately negate their advantages. First, they are unbelievably leaky. I take good care of my boots, and I've never had boots that let in water the way these do. Despite lacking Gore-Tex and utilizing Norwegian welt construction, I'd expected more water resistance than these boots could offer. A couple of hours tramping through early season snow, and my socks were soaked to the core. The other major con is that these boots do not lace tightly enough around the ankle, so the ankle support can be lacking, but perhaps even worse, scree can easily enter the top of the boot. On some of the gravel roads in the Alps, I was stopping a couple of times an hour to shake rocks out of my boots.
These would actually be a fantastic pair of boots were a bit more attention put into addressing the drawbacks. Unfortunately, though, the negatives are sufficient enough that I can't recommend them.

Comments about Merrell Wilderness Hiking Boots - Men's:
My first experience with a Merrell boot was twenty plus years ago.... I was looking for something else! [...]Of all the recreational gear I have selected [...] Those MERRELL BOOTS REMAIN MY BEST CHOICE... I OFTEN RECOMMEND MERRELL BOOTS FOR THEIR COMFORT...Speaking of comfort... That first pair of Merrell's was made just prior to a month long adventure to GRAND CANYON. There was no time for breaking in the boots before leaving on the trip.... Thus, on the morning we set out to hike the canyon, I decided to wear my new Merrell's - thinking I could always switch to my other boots when the Merrell's became uncomfortable... That "never happened"... I enjoyed them very step of the way to Phantom Ranch @ the bottom of the Canyon...Needless to say Merrell Boots are my favorite to this day!Treat yourself to a pair!
