Comments about Counter Assault Bear Deterrent Spray - 290 Gram:
This product really comes in handy. We live and play in Southeast Alaska and I am also a wilderness guide. I guide trips all year round and during bear season, the stakes get even higher. I always carry my Springfield XD 45 ACP but, I also carry my bear deterrent. On a recent trip out with clients we ran up on a very large brown bear. I was guiding 4 men and 2 teenagers and when we came upon the bear, I had everybody stop and after backing up, I had them make as much noise as possible. The bear was undeterred and instead began to approach at a pretty quick pace. He went for one of the teenage boys and things began to unravel quite quickly. I had my firearm drawn and was ready to unload but, the young boy was in the line of fire and was pretty much frozen with fear. I then grabbed my bear deterrent and ran around the flank to get a shot at the bears upper body. It immediately stopped him and caused him to start making a noise similar to a roar. I was then able to grab the young boy and we all began to retreat. While I always carry my gun and I feel very safe with the stopping power that it offers, shooting may not always be an option. I would highly recommend that anybody traveling in bear country should carry a can of this stuff. It does work and may be your only alternative. Lastly, a dangerous encounter with a bear may require that you put him down but, it is always nice to try less deadly means first.

Comments about Counter Assault Bear Deterrent Spray - 290 Gram:
Nice to have in bear country. Buy two and use one for target practice. If you have to use it you want to feel comfortable that you know the range and spread. Note: when testing, make sure you are up wind. The spray will linger and will make you cough even in small doses. If you buy it, buy the holster because leaving it in camp does you no good with the bear on the trail.

Comments about Counter Assault Bear Deterrent Spray - 290 Gram:
On the hike up to Holden Lake, WA., last year, we surprised a large Black Bear feeding on berries alongside the trail. We pulled out our Counter Assault Bear Spray and slipped off the safety and pointed. Two hikers, two cans of spray. Enough spray to give the bear a headache. The bear grunted and turned his rear end toward us and we slowly walked backward up the trail, eyes on the bear, cans pointed. Very comforting to have the bear spray while in Bear country. Perhaps this bear had a bad memory for bear spray.
