Comments about Open Country 10-Inch Saute Pan:

I am taking the time to write this review because I happened to see that other people disliked this product and I remember that 30 years ago I bought one of these frying pans when I hiked a lot. The little pan went to the Alps, the Rockies, the volcanoes in Mexico and I have cooked on it probably a thousand times. Now I live in a big house with fancy everything and I still use this little guy occasionally to saute butter, onions, ham and cheese, etc. Honestly, it is the only piece of cookware that I personally have ever owned, and I have had it my entire adult life. Maybe I am just weird, but still, as a product, I can't even think of anything else in my life to compare it to.

Comments about Open Country 10-Inch Saute Pan:

This pan heats up fast, and the folding handle keeps it compact.

        Issues:
1.) My pan moves around too much over my coleman stove, slips around, and wobbly. The bottom of this pan is smooth, and not flat enough.
        2.) Food sticks.

Comments about Open Country 10-Inch Saute Pan:

This thing has a horribly puny non-stick surface. In fact, I wouldn't call it a non-stick surface, because stuff started sticking after a few minutes of use. Not sure if it was the heat of our MSR Pocket Rocket stove or if it just plain lousy, but it very definitely failed. I would have left it in the woods if I wasn't a principled 'leave-no-trace' type, I was so sick of this pan. This will teach me to skimp on important gear - I'm getting a nice MSR cookset now.

Comments about Open Country 10-Inch Saute Pan:

I bought this mostly for a compact car-camping or short-hike-in camp. I figured a non-stick surface and fold-out handle would make it great. I have use it mostly on the coleman stove but sometimes over a fire.

Well the non-stick surface isn't so great. Even the first few times I used it, things stuck. I use plenty of these types of pans at home and have far better results. Plus, the non-stick surface scrapes off terribly easily -- again, compared to home pans, the surface is weak.

The fold-out handle isn't particularly sturdy. With any reasonable amount of food in the pan, you can accidentally collapse the handled out of it's snapped in position. And finally, when collapsed, the handle takes up a lot of room inside the pan, making it nearly impossible to nest other items like pans and plated inside the pan.
