This spring-loaded ascender is specially adapted for mountain climbing and rescue.

• Spring-loaded design allows cam to open in one direction only--converts quickly and easily to free-running mode for hauling and litter-raising
• Radius-grooved cam provides more holding surface for better grip on muddy, icy ropes; design allows greater loads without damaging rope
• Shell made of lightweight-yet-tough aluminum with oversized aluminum cam
• Must be disassembled and attached directly to rope; offers better security, since rope can't fall out under slack conditions
