    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

CycleOps Mag Bike Trainer with Shifter - 2014is rated4.0out of5by2.
Rated4out of5byfromAn indoor way to stay in bike shape!Recently, I mentioned on the phone to a friend that I had just finished a bike ride – which surprised him because he said, "John, it's 8 degrees outside, a bike ride?" After the laugh, I told him I had picked up a bike trainer made by CycleOps and moved my bicycle indoors to exercise and stay in shape. Staying fit during the cold winter months is important to me because I not only do weekly rides in the warm weather with my wife, I also play beach volleyball in the summer and hard court VB during the colder weather—plus I kayak. And if you love the outdoors check out my book at www.WaterviewsBook.com. With the CycleOps Mag + Trainer, I have a way to stay fit, burn calories, and cross-train. Now as for assembly of the Mag + Trainer, I suggest don't try to figure out how to do it or how it works, just go and assemble the unit. While the instructions are not great, the unit is well designed enough for anyone to set it up. Perhaps the tricky part is using the packaged Skewer—because you have to swap out the one on your bike's rear wheel. It's about your safety—so make sure you follow the instructions. Here's what I find with the Mag + Trainer, the unit is very good at simulating a run on the flats. You can vary the speed with the shifter and the bike's gears using the available traction. What it does not do very well is give you a true feeling of a climb. However, considering what it can do, this can be overlooked. I created a bike ride music playlist within my iTunes library selecting favorite songs to vary the routine. You'll hear a lot about bike training boredom. Try these things to beat boredom; set your music to different patterns, I do a warm-up - a few songs to build up speed while increasing traction, then a slow song climb while stair-stepping. This is followed by another run on the flats, again building speed and traction. Two more slow songs to stair-step up a hill. Then, I use a serious of quick songs to run the flats followed by a slow-down. To vary the slow climbs, I do handlebar push-ups, and/or grab some hand-weights to involve my upper body. Another big improvement is the use of a heart-monitor, whether a smart-phone app or a chest to watch transmitter, the heart monitor makes you focus on what your heart is doing in addition to your physical workout. Depending on your training goals, the heart monitor can be very useful. I am looking for muscle toning and an aerobic workout—so, using the heart monitor I can change my pedal-pace to keep my heart in the aerobic zone. This also helps with boredom. Purchasing this item through REI was perfect – they have a great on-line interface for ordering, and shipping to my local store saved me ship to charges. The folks at the store made a pick-up easy. Plus, what a wonderful return policy—in case. In Summary, the Cycle-Ops Mag + Trainer is a sturdy, effective, and fun to use trainer. Good luck with your training! John Ronkonkoma, NY

Rated4out of5byfromGood Indoor RideI usually rely on my husband to assemble things and was able to figure this out on my own, so it must have been easy! It is very sturdy. I am using a front wheel block with it. I think the shifting is somewhat odd. It doesn't have clear "gears" and seems hard for me to know where to set it. It is noisy enough that I have to use earphones in order to hear a video or TV show which I find essential to offset the boredom. If you are new to using a trainer, as I am, you need to know that they will destroy your rear tire, so it is best to purchase a different tire if you don't want to wreck the one on your bike.
