Rated 4 out of 5 by from Depends on what you're looking for. I used the boots on a nine day trip to Banff and Jaspar. The ankle support does not stay tight because the tongue is very thick and there is only one ankle hook. These boots fit my foot perfectly and were comfortable except the irritation on my ankles caused because I needed to keep the shoe laces ultra tight in order to have ankle support. They are very waterproof and have good tread and insulation, but also have a fairly low ankle, so I'm unsure about snow shoeing which is one reason I purchased them. I will try them in snow, and if they work, keep them, and if not, return them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but flawed These boots got me through New York's icy, snowy winter. They aren't high enough for deep slush or deep snow. I bought the boots thinking I'd also possibly buy gaithers but have yet to buy the gaithers and try them out with the boots. The boots are somewhat warm but not very warm. When bird watching on some of the colder days this winter, I found my feet still got very cold in spite of wearing double wool socks. The main complaint that I share with other reviewers is that the single ankle tie often loosens. I often tie the laces twice over the ankle and then double knot but the laces still sometimes get loose which is very annoying when walking distances or out in the field. Lastly, I have problem feet with high arches and a wide width. I have to wear custom orthotics. In this regard, the boots worked out excellent since they are wide and deep enough for my orthotic and overall provide good support except for that ankle problem. The boots are also comfortable right out of the box and are overall comfortable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I was wrong I was wrong on my review the other day and this is my amendment to that review. The fact that the ankles are loose is much more of an issue than I thought it would be. I've worn these the past three days. Day 1 had a high of around 27 degrees and my feet were warm. I loved that. It was a relatively short bike ride that day - less than 15 miles - and the inability to lace these tightly at the ankle didn't seem to be a big deal. The second day was a longer ride. The temperatures were warmer, and my feet never felt cold at all, but my ankles were sore by the time we finished the ride from the way the boots were rubbing them. Yesterday I thought I could fix the problem with a thicker sock. I didn't want or need anything thicker on my feet, so I cut the foot off an old pair of socks and just added the extra thickness around my ankles. Initially I thought it was going to work. Walked about 1/4 mile and they felt much better so I went riding again. We rode a little over 33 miles and by the time I finished my ankles were seriously sore. This morning they feel bruised and abused. Unfortunately I don't see a solution and will be returning these. I really wish I could keep them because my feet like them a lot, but my ankles can not live with them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good These just arrived this morning so I can't say I've put them through their paces yet. This is a first impression. The other review about the lack of ankle support was spot on. The way they're cut - low at the back of the foot - probably contributes to that, but they really don't lace tightly at the top. Since I didn't buy them to hike in I figured they were still worth trying. For my purposes they worked well today. It was around 27 degrees for the high temperature and I wore them to ride my bike for a couple of hours. No toe warmers today, just a pair of wool socks and my feet were fine. I don't think I'd like these for hiking. Walking in them is a bit uncomfortable for my ankles. That has nothing to do with the support (or lack of it) but more to do with the style of a high top and the way it rubs at my ankle when I walk in them. For riding my bike, however, they were very comfortable. In the next couple of days we're expecting rain and I hope to find out if they really are waterproof. If I can wear these in cold, wet conditions and have happy, warm feet without having to struggle in and out of the neoprene shoe covers I'll be a happy customer. So, the jury is really still out on them, but I'll say that I'd recommend them conditionally. It really depends on what you want them for.
