Comments about CamelBak Octane XCT Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz. - 2012 Closeout:
I love the way this pack looks (and the Jasmine Green is super bright and beautiful) and I was intrigued by the unusual configuration. It's really clever in that it gets most of the weight down onto your hips and off your back. The bungee system is flexible and holds more than you'd think. The pack itself weighs next to nothing. The back venting is great and the way the sides wrap around you makes it extremely stable. Unfortunately, at 5'2" (and short-waisted at that), I knew it might not fit. I couldn't find any online reviews that addressed this so I ordered it. Not even close. Even though you can adjust the straps quite a bit, I had no luck. The pack itself is far too long and ran from the base of my neck almost to my tailbone. The straps hit exactly the wrong places in front making The Girls really uncomfortable, and when I cinched up the chest strap, the shoulders pulled in on the inside and arched up on the outside, sort of giving me wings. Neither comfortable nor flattering. Had I worn it full for any length of time I think it would have really hurt. I ended up returning it and going with a women-specific Aurora. Not as much capacity but the improvement in fit more than made up for it. Both packs use the new Antidote reservoirs and I really like them. Much easier to open and close than the old Omegas and no leaking. The flow lock also works a lot better than the old ones. I have an old Magic that I still use sometimes because it holds more gear and I am probably going to replace its Omega with a new Antidote.
