Blackburn MTF 1 Front Bike Rackis rated5.0out of5by1.
Rated5out of5byTom SackettfromExcellent, if it fitsFront racks have recently made a comeback. Many of them, however, are made for only light loads. This one is very sturdy, and can handle heavy loads.
However, your fork must have built-in threaded mounts for touring racks. This means both low-rider mounts on the sides of the fork blades and regular threaded eyelets on the front (not the back) of the dropouts. Even if you have these mounts, the geometry of their placement may cause the back of the rack to interfere with the brake cable. For my bike, an older REI Novara Randonee, I had to shorten the bottom tabs of the rack and drill new holes, in order to rotate the rack forward enough to clear the brake cable. This might not be an issue if you have v-brakes.
If you can successfully install this rack, it's great. I use mine like a porteur rack, putting heavy loads on top of it and stabilizing them with straps on my handlebars. I also use it with open-topeed shopping panniers. I imagine it would be great for loaded touring.
