I have been using an Edge 500 for several years and until now it was the best non-map cycling computer I had run across. The Edge 510, while not perfect, is a nice upgrade. It offers all the features of the 500 and allows for a lot more screen configuration options. I especially like the bluetooth feature and phone apps that allow easy wireless updating to the web. It's a little larger than the 500 but not too large for competitive riding.

The touch screen is not a problem for setup and control of the unit; I find it makes the unit easy to configure and switch between bike and ride profiles (it's easier then trying to figure out which buttons do what...). However, it is very difficult to control the screen display or change anything while riding. This was the reason I rated the 510 a 4; otherwise it's a solid 5.

Grade and total elevation screwy on this one. Garmin 500 much more accurate. Screen just broke as I was riding yesterday. Day not hot or particularly sunny. Clerk at local REI store hesitant to take back and swap out for new one. Asked if this was a new policy because this is one of the main reasons to buy electronic devices from REI. Clerk said no policy change and then took back cautioning that she was helping me out and that REI might not return defective products in future. I have had to return Edge 405 that was terribly inconsistent and Garmin 500 because of random freezing and HRM problem. Garmin now admits problem with previous "premium" HRM strap but has not recalled. New strap has three elaectrode sensors in strap.

Garmin 510 is a great product once configured and working properly. Only problem other than cracked screen was having to turn off weather as I live in fire country and alerts would completely black out screen until cleared (about every 5 minutes with no way to turn off or minimize)

Have found Garmin to be inconsistent in both quality and manufacturing. Wish REI would start hammering on them as manufacturer for high return rate than customer just trying to get workable product. Return policy is main reason to shop REI as most products are becoming over priced even with 10% rebate.
