    Benchmade 162 Bushcrafter Knifeis rated4.6out of5by5.
Rated4out of5byfromSolid KnifeSolid knife. Thick spine. Good craftsmanship. Very sharp, though secondary edge is striated. Once it begins to dull, I will convert to a convex edge, but waiting for it to dull seems to be a forever proposition. Have done significant woodcraft work and fire-making to keep in practice while waiting for Spring hiking/camping season. Just won't dull enough to justify more than a daily touch-up. Spine is about 5mm thick. Strong, but you will notice that it doesn't act like a kitchen knife when doing food work. Not an issue, but an act of expectation management. It strikes sparks from a steel just fine, but the top of the spine will be slightly disfigured. Cosmetic, but a warning for those that want to keep the finish unmarred. Downside is one aspect of the sheath and that can be fixed. On the good side, I like the dangler loop atop the belt loop, but then, I like dangling my knife. Thumb snap is nice. Fire steel holder works, but you'll need the thick ones (1/4", I think, is what I bought.) Sheath holds knife securely. Strategic rivets reinforce key points. But...there isn't a single channel for the blade edge. There is a leather layer that runs down the seam and is stitched to the front and back edges of the sheath. Great idea lots of sheaths use to keep the knife edge from cutting the stitching. The blade edge, on this sheath, however, slides down either to the left or right of this ridge of leather more often than not. So in replacing the knife, I cut the side of the sheath just above the tube and the rivet that reinforces the top of the sheath tube. Fixed it with epoxy, which I also bedded into the channel where the blade should go. As it hardened, I shaped it to accept the blade. Now, it works perfectly. So, if you are willing to be more careful than me or do half an hour of epoxy mod, the sheath is very nice. Lastly, when wet, it has adequate grip. Contours of the handle ensure that, but the handle material didn't feel as certain as I wanted. I like a grippy feel when handling a sharp knife and while controllable when wet, I wanted more. Now, no one may want to do this, but I took some bike inner tube and pulled it over the handle. Not for the purist, but it works great. Still, with the handle contours, I suppose your grip will be assured anyway, even when wet.

Rated5out of5byfromThis is a knifeThis is an excellent knife, and if you read the reviews above you already know that. However Ill add my voice to theirs. Excellent blade. The material, design, and grind are spot on. Most bushcraft knives are carbon steel with a Scandinavian grind, this blade however is premium stainless steel (s30v is the only steel made specifically for cutlery purposes) with a full flat grind. This mean the blade is ALOT less likely to rust and holds a very good edge for a very long time. I batoned the knife through 6 old hardwood logs and the knife was still sharp enough to shave hair off my arm with minimal effort. The handle design looks odd at first but when you understand the different grips it's designed to accommodate you realize it is well executed. G10 is indestructible so pound away. The back of the blade throws a mean spark off any fire steel. Should this be your only blade in the wilderness? No, but only because the golden rule of bushcraft is: two is one and one is none. I carry the light my fire mora as a back up blade, which is much cheaper and an excellent bushcraft blade in its own right, also available at REI.

Rated5out of5byfromAll weather, multi-use bushcrafter! The B.M bushcrafter has been a great all purpose knife. It is a good size, and unobtrusive in the pack. Nice to see a bushcrafter making use of some great advanced materials. It is made out of a high quality Stainless S30V that was extremely sharp out of the box, holds an edge and due to the high grind and good edge geometry is easy to sharpen. The Stainless blade is a nice feature on this modern take of the Bushcrafter as there is no real worry of rusting in the field. Same goes for the G-10 handle, impervious to most environmental conditions. I took some sandpaper to the handle to round the edges a bit, applied some gun oil to the g-10 and now it is dialed in! The Titanium tubing is a nice touch and is practical as it offers a place to use as lashing points on the knife. I like a low maintenance knife in the field! I have used this knife in the snow, rain and in the desert, on a 5 day hiking trip and has performed well. The blade is thick enough to baton without fear of breaking. Sheath is decent and also considering having a kydex sheath made for it. One tuff knife.

Rated4out of5byfromBenchmade 162 Bushcrafter KnifeThe knife is well designed and engineered. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the sheath. It is uncomfortable to wear on your belt because the belt loop is too low making the knife handle pock your ribs. Also the "D" loop and the fire striker are frivolous.

I use this knife for sereveral camping and fishing trips. I have also used this knife while hiking. This knife has preformed effortlessly from remedial tasks to splitting kiddling. I would consider this one of the best bushcraft style knives on the market. The sheath is also very nice. Do not hestiate to get this knife. It will be a great add this up coming season.
