Rated5out of5byGoHawksfromComfy and WarmComfortable and warm. Kept me in a good place while commuting in this crazy winter and when snowboarding on the mountain on extra cold days.

Rated5out of5byRunningOrvillefromI could live in theseI bought these as a base layer for my very cold runs in the winter. I found that I like to wear them around the house instead of lounge pants. They are very comfortable and soft, and they do their job of keeping me warm.
Since I've been wearing these on my runs, my legs do not get cold, and they are snug enough to offer a little more leg support in the thighs.

Rated5out of5byPete3900fromPerforms excellentWent on vacation Thankgiving week and got an early taste of winter this year. Took these along and felt warm and comfortable with just very light hiking pants over top. Nicest feeling longs I've ever owned. looking forward to really putting them to the test once winter really kicks in. And will be ordering more.

Rated5out of5byanalyst216fromSatisfiedI've got three pairs and use them in the late fall through early spring when the weather goes below 40. When on my motorcycle I use them if the weather is below 55. To date, I have been satisfied with it's ability to keep me warm. The important thing is to LAYER one's clothing to accommodate the temperature that will occur throughout the day. Most people understand this and are likely satisfied also.

Rated4out of5byADK DaydreamerfromNot heavy in weight but warm enoughAs I gear up to join my son's BSA troop which camps year round in places like NY state, I was looking to replace my decades old two layer cotton/wool long johns with something non-cotton.
So far, all of my REI gear has satisfied me so I went straight for this "heavyweight" pair. The first reviewer is right that they are not heavy. I was surpised too but I wonder if he actually tried them out. I've used them a couple of times, the latest being on a hike on a very windy day at 30 degrees with only summer weight hiking pants on top of the underwear. I was warm enough even with the wind.
I think these would suit anyone who expects to be active, especially with a decent layer on top. the real test for me will be when I'm out there for a couple of days but I am satisfied that these are a great base layer to build upon.
They are more comfortable than you might think based seeing the photo of the outside layer. The inside is a layer of soft, brushed material that is quite cozy.
I rated the fit true to size but I would go down a size if you are in between. I am 5'10" and have a 32-33 waste and medium is plenty big for me.

Rated1out of5bypopofromThin and freezing - not heavyweightDo not buy these if you want heavyweight long johns. Frankly, I think they are mislabeled. They are not heavy weight and are not warm. They are thin, cold, and feel clammy. The fabric has a smooth exterior with a thin fuzzy interior. The outer surface of the weave structure has porous lines that presumably promote "breathing" similar to those found in Extended Cold Weather Clothing System (E.C.W.C.S.) military long johns. The critical difference is that genuine heavy weight E.C.W.C.S. are about four times thicker than this REI long underwear.
