Comments about SmartWool SportKnit Half-Zip Sweater - Men's - 2012 Closeout:
I wear or take it with me often. It's lightweight but adds warmth and looks great. My only objection is that I can't find one or two more to purchase!

Comments about SmartWool SportKnit Half-Zip Sweater - Men's - 2012 Closeout:
Short answer: sleeves cut too short for an active fit.
Long answer: I've long been a fan of SmartWool and their line of clothing. I have a taller more "athletic" fit, and SmartWool has always fit comfortably without excess/bulk while still providing a full range of motion. Unfortunately, this half-zip is the first to disappoint. Although the chest/torso seems appropriately cut, it appears as though the sleeves are cut 1"-1.5" shorter than all other size "L" SmartWool sweaters I've owned in the past (4 total). Placing my arms barely forward, the sleeves immediately crawl back.
I'm afraid SmarWool is either using new fit-models for their revised sizing, or has gone the route of so many manufacturers before them... now sizing for the casual apre-ski, fashion-over-function crowd rather than the active athlete.
Positives: Still feels like quality construction and materials one comes to expect from SmartWool. This half-zip would best serve as a mid-layering piece.
Conclucsion: If you have a medium build and can entertain a shorter sleeve length, the half-zip can be a great addition to your layering wardrobe. But if you like a little more mobility and longer sleeve length for active pursuits (where you're raising your arms above your waistline), look elsewhere.
