Rated4out of5byfitwinesnobfromGreat spring/fall jacket!I have had my eyes on this jacket for a while now. This is my first North Face product. I was introduced to it by a neighbor who had worn it throughout all of last winter. After trying it on, I was completely thrown off by how the jacket was very warm, yet very light for its size. Although it is worth its weight in gold (sorry for that terrible pun), the jacket was a steep buy at $199. I was fortunate to have some dividend funds from shopping at REI last year, plus the 20% coupon. I paid about $138 total.
I am 5’ 11”, 190lb, with an athletic build. I like fitted clothing. I picked a medium sized jacket that I found to be the most accommodating for my shoulders, chest, and arm length (34”). One of the things that I nitpick about the jacket is the fact that it is boxy, and not form fitting. On the other hand, I can easily throw on a fleece under it, if the outside temperatures were arctic…
I had decided to test its water repelling abilities a few days ago. Although it is not marketed as a waterproof or water-repellent jacket, it kept me dry after 15 minutes in the rain. The jacket is not marketed as windproof either. However, I felt comfortable in the strong winds we had two weeks ago. What I really like is the fact that I can pack it into its pocket as a small pillow-type package that weighs almost nothing.
Overall, I think this is a great all-around jacket. I look forward to wearing it on my hikes. What I would really like to see is sealable inside pockets for a cell phone or wallet. I would also like to see the jacket form more fitted than boxy.
Other than that, I would definitely buy another one in a different color when another discount coupon rolls around.

Rated5out of5byRLPhotofromI love this Jacket!I found this jacket this spring on the clearance rack at REI. I had been wanting one all winter, but just never got around to buying one and when I saw it on the clearance rack in my size I couldn't pass it up.
This jacket is so light and yet it keeps you warm. It's lighter than my fleece jackets, yet keeps me warmer and is less bulky. I wore it on a recent snowshoeing trip in Rocky Mountain National Park and even with the wind it kept me nice and toasty in the 20 degree weather. It also is very breathable and so I didn't notice it being damp inside the jacket like I normally get with my fleece.
I should have bought this sooner. It will be my perfect companion to camping trips especially when the sun goes down in the high country or early in the morning when I'm out photographing a sunrise.
I highly recommend this jacket!

Rated5out of5byJerrysffromLight, Warm & AttractovePerfect for 7,000 ft freezing temps in light wind, as well as sea-level 55 degree hills. Even inside an air conditioned airport it didn't get too warm. People are drawn to its styling, color, light weight and warmth. Static charge makes it hard to part with. I used an anti-static spray to tame it. Can't overstate how light it is--just a few ounces. Squeezes into a small space when not needed. I'll buy more as gifts.

Rated5out of5bybackcountry splitboarderfromSUPER warm underlayerAt first, I was a little sticker shocked in fall time, but now that winter has arrived, I bought the long sleeve non-hoodie, and was SO impressed with how nice and evenly warm it is that I went and bought the vest, and the long sleeve hoodie, which of course is the warmest of the three. For B/C snowboarding and skiing, you might bring the vest, the long sleeve, AND the the long sleeve hoodie as layers. With a one-piece base layer, and either a one piece jumper, or attachable top and bottom, there is practically no such thing as cold in the backcountry, or on a motorcycle in the winter. Once again, on a bike doing 80, you need as much as you can get when it's cold, and not to have to haul around big heavy jackets when it's warm in the day. I have noticed that what is good for motorcycles, especially dirt bikes, is also good for snowboarding usually.

Rated4out of5byhammychangfromDarn Good JacketThis is a good jacket so far. I first bought in preparation for a trip to iceland. Withstood 22F with high winds and heavy snow and was comfortable throughout. Bear in mind, this jacket is only water-RESISTANT, so it can handle some wet weather, but will eventually be overwhelmed by extended exposure. In spite of that while you will get moist, you will remain warm. I paired it with a vest underneath:
Tested it out again today during New York's "Arctic Vortex" Temp at 7F with windchill of -12F. Again layered with the vest, and remained warm and unaffected by the wind. As a New Yorker who walks around with a lot of "stuff" this jacket definitely needs more pockets, internal or otherwise for carrying phones and the like. Extremely light weight and easy to fold and pack away.
Anyone else think winter jackets should have some sort of temperature rating?

Rated5out of5byFather of 2fromVery happy with this jacketI bought this jacket for travel and recreational use. It packs very small and fits easily into my backpack when going through airports. When packed it also doubles as a nice pillow on airplanes. In cooler to cold weather with little wind it is great as a top layer. In cold windy weather I use it as a mid layer under a more wind/waterproof shell and it provides very adequate warmth. Only mark against it is I wish the sleeves were about 1 to 1.5 inches longer.
