This gadget has a lot of functions. Although it was clearly designed for running it does have some cycling functions. As a cyclist I don't use many of the functions.

One thing I really like is programming custom workouts which I use for cardio zone training. It has a vibrating alarm that tells me when my HR is too low, too high or when it's time to move to the next section of my workout. I use it when training indoors. It also has a sound alarm but I use it with music so I prefer the vibration.

I don't find it to be user friendly but that could be me. I'm good with gadgets and instructions but I still allow for the possibility that it's me. The unit is big and bulky.

I'm still playing with it so I don't want to discourage anyone from giving it a try. With enough use I'm hoping that using it will be second nature.

I have owned the watch going on a month now, and so far I love it. The screens are easy to navigate and understand. I personally found the entire software easy to navigate after playing with it for a little bit. The satellite reception is better than my old 405 and tends to pick up a signal faster. I haven't had any of the issues that many 610 users have talked about, but the special edition comes with a plastic (?) backing. Not as cool as the metal backing on the regular model, but I don't have to worry about my sweat eating it either.
I have only had it a short time so I can't comment on reverse charging issues other users have experienced. I find the batter life to be perfectly acceptable as I charge it about once a week and I use it about 5 days a week.

Overall, if you want a watch almost exclusively for running and cycling, get it! If you are far more interested in hiking, I'd go for the Fenix.

I am a sports lover, specifically running and biking. Petite and female, I was looking for a GPS watch that could manage both sports and look good doing it. I had the black 610 for nearly a year and they are great! Quick satellite fix with reliable connection. Easy ANT+ sensor searches quickly finds your HRM or footpod or bike sensor(not included) for added data geekiness(or better training!) The backlight is bright. The data screens are customizable and have many different settings and readings available to choose from. Virtual Pacer runner/biker pace options and even Virtual Racer that allows you to race your previous best on that course OR upload another Garmin Connect user's route and race that!
I sold my black after 11 months of daily running or biking usage to buy another 610 in white. I have had nothing but easy usage with my old 610 and expect the same from the new one. I did notice that the white one has a plastic back base to it, whereas the black had a metal one. This made the white watch weight about half what the black one did(which I like since it will "flop" around less on my wrist when running) but it does make the white one look "cheaper" than the black one. But overall, I welcome the change.
