Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Diamondback +0 Sleeping Bag - Regular - Special Buy:
I bought this sleeping bag on a whim because I wanted a warm backup for visiting traveling companions who need extra comfort. I decided to take it camping (not hiking) myself first and test it out.
Right up front, I'll tell you that I would want it to pack a bit tighter for minimalist backpacking. The weight isn't too bad, but it doesn't compress like down does.
However this is one comfortable sleeping bag. It's very soft to the touch. It's got plenty of room (I'm 6' 2"). And the zipper is GREAT quality. With cold hands, using one hand, no problem. This zipper doesn't catch and doesn't easily unzip when you move around. It's really about the best I've ever seen. I just can't stand when zippers are underbuilt, especially for cold weather use.
I've used it just one trip at this point, for 3 nights. It was raining and about 35 degrees F and I was very comfortable. The tent leaked a steady drip from a couple points, and the inside of the bag never got wet. The outside dried pretty quickly the next day.
If you're ok with a bit more weight and volume, I would definitely recommend this bag.
