I bought these pants for various day hikes and backpacking. They were great in cool weather and in warm weather, and I could wear the full length to protect my legs from brambles, and I could take the pant legs off for water crossings. They were very comfortable. As far as sizing goes, if you split between two sizes, I would go for the smaller of the two.

The styling draws all attention to your upper thighs - patch cargo pockets on front of thighs. Horizontal zippers on thighs for zip off feature.Not the least bit feminine. I really wanted to like these. I'm only a size 8 but wow, that's not what I want out of a pant!
